The only thing I was trying to see on those caps was framing. Because my Vizio does NOT allow me to zoom in on either blu-rays or streaming. And even if it did, I can't get a 1.66:1 zoom anyway. Also the image is quite a bit brighter on my Chromecast anyway.

Summertime was largely shot in natural light. The new Criterion more accurately reflects that. The "RAN" (typical Tooze gibberish), which btw is the older transfer still currently on HBO Max, appears to be contrast boosted.

IIRC the master they used on Last Emperor was created primarily for DVD and used Storaro's modus opperendii for standard def formats:

Yes that option exists. Doesn't work on roku or the internal HBO Max app for that matter either. Also tv's actually a M55Q8-H1.

Ironically if you use the argument they made in the 90s that widescreen was bad because it didn't fill your tv then Criterion is in the wrong here.

Since I've got nothing better to do here's some more. Frame size is 1434x775 which the 1.33:1 manages to extract to rather well from a 1920x1080 cap.

Yes. The black bars on the left and right are from the windowboxing. It creates a 1.66:1 framing inside of a 1.85:1 wrapper.
