Well if that system happens to work great for you then that is indeed truly awesome. The system I have works great for me also.

I don't have the DVD's of Laugh In that Rhino released, if I had those I could compare them to the Time Life discs and I would probably notice the difference and the fake film effect that you describe. The Time Life DVD's present the shows uncut which to me is a great thing because I dislike...

The TV's I have are the old style 4x3 type, I wouldn't want anything else because modern flatscreen/widescreen TV's are garbage. While it's possible Time Life screwed up the video when they produced the Laugh In DVD's, when I watch episodes, overall they look fine to me so I'm not complaining.

Yes I believe the scene with Dinah Shore is the one I was thinking about. If the speed up/slow down motion was done on purpose, maybe it was also intentionally done in episode 19 of season 2. It's a weird looking effect. Maybe the producers wanted to mess with peoples eyes.

Season 2 is my favorite season. Take a closer look at episode 19 and see if you can spot the occasional speed up/slow down motion in the video. It occurs just a few times and lasts only a few seconds, but it's noticeable. There's another episode, I forget which one it is currently, but there's...

Time/Life Press Release: Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In: The Complete Series

Last night I watched Season 2 Episode 19 on the DVD, and I did notice a few times intermittently during the episode when the video did a weird looking speed up/slow down motion for a few brief seconds. It's not really too distracting and didn't ruin the viewing experience of the episode, but it...

The 10 minute clip "Rowan & Martin at the Movies" was fun, too bad it wasn't included on the DVD's as an extra. Thanks Martin P. for posting it.

I'm in the same camp with Martin P. and all the others who don't have issues with the video on these DVD's. The audio level is a little low/soft in a few episodes but that's the only thing I can complain about.

It's alright, the video quality of those early season episodes gives them a nostalgic/aged appearance so it's not really a bad thing. Overall, season 2 is my favorite season of the series.

I agree with your assessment, about mid way into season 3 there's an improvement in video quality and the image is clearer/sharper. The funny thing is, Judy Carne is my favorite so I tend to watch those first 2 1/2 seasons/early episodes more than the later episodes, despite the early episodes...

I watch DVD's on a 21 inch Sony Trinitron TV, as far as I know it doesn't have a motion-smoothing setting. But the shows look fine and I haven't noticed issues like those you are describing. One thing I have noticed is that the video image is softer in the season 1 and 2 episodes. Then with...

I watched season 4 episode 22 and didn't notice any change or difference in the video quality. I compared the episode to the other ones on the disc, #19, 20, & 21, and to me they all look the same. #22 looks no different compared to the others.

I lived in Chicago during the 1980's. If I recall correctly, WGN aired those condensed, half hour Laugh-In's around that 1983 time frame. I didn't tune in because they weren't the full, hour long shows.

I was a youngster in grade school when Laugh-In debuted in January 1968. My mom and dad watched the show each week and I would sometimes look in at it too. At the time we had a Zenith black and white TV, it had tubes in the back and was installed on a swivel stand with a "rabbit ears" antenna...

Time/Life Press Release: Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In: The Complete Series

Replying to Martin P., My favorite parts of Laugh-In are probably the party segments and whenever the cast does a song and dance number, those are usually entertaining. When the series first started, there was a music video segment during the episode but it seems they dropped that idea fairly...

Smoking was very fashionable in the 50's and 60's and it was common to see people smoking on TV shows during those years. Around 1970-71 is when the anti-smoking movement began and cigarette ads were banned from TV.

It's true that Dan Rowan is often seen smoking in the episodes. There are moments, especially during seasons 1 and 2, when he blows smoke directly into Dick Martin's face.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get annoyed with Arte Johnson's german soldier character? Arte Johnson does some funny things in the episodes, but I could easily do without those german soldier routines. Hogan's Heroes was a popular show on the air during that time, so maybe the german...

Another reason I believe Judy left Laugh-In is because she was just getting bored with it. She seemed to be the type of person who didn't want to do the same thing for too long, always looking to do something new and different. It's sad that her TV career in the USA basically fizzled out after...

It's too bad that Judy Carne didn't stay with the series for the entire 3rd season because this is the season when I think she looks the cutest. She is a regular cast member for the first 11 episodes, then in episode 12 things start to change, she isn't seen much in episode 12. She is then...

All six seasons have something fun to offer, but in my opinion the series peaked in season 2 and overall I think season 2 is the best one. I like pretty much everything about season 2 except for the addition of Alan Sues to the cast, I could do without him. Lily Tomlin might have been the one...

I only mentioned The Carol Burnett Show but it's true that other comedy/variety shows of the time like Flip Wilson and Sonny & Cher also showed the studio audience. Laugh-In was a hold out doing this until the 6th season.

That's true about Charlie and Mitzi, she hauls off and whacks him. Comes off as more painful rather than funny. Maybe that's why they were only in a few episodes. Seems to me that they are in 3 or 4 shows during the first half of the season and then they are gone. No I didn't know that Sam...

Martin, Lily Tomlin brought much to the show with all the different characters she played. She's not a favorite of mine but is quite talented being able to play a variety of characters. Season 5 has one episode that's a little under 50 minutes, episode 20 with Sandy Duncan, Johnny Cash is in...

Thanks Martin for all your comments. So the preview for the next episode at the end of season 6 episode 14 was removed which explains the 51:00 run time instead of 51:30.
