Unfortunately, I can't speak to the sound quality of either right now, because my SACD player is packed away for then next month. I ripped both to my ipod and have been listening in MP3 (or whatever Apple uses) glory :frowning: .
Oh, and I should note that I picked up both Clapton SACDs on...
Just received Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard. The first SACD I've purchased in a long time. Unfortunately, my SACD player is packed away right now, so it'll be a bit before I can listen to it.
Yeah, the Downward Spiral was released on SACD with a 5.1 surround mix and a bunch of extras. I picked it up a few years ago. Predictably, it sounds really good. Looks like Music Direct still has it for sale.
Downloaded the free 24/96 WAVE version of NIN's The Slip from the NIN website. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of moving, so I don't have any way to actually hook it into my stereo and see how it sounds over a real system (plus, I need to figure out a way of playing it other than hooking my...
Damn. I guess I am too. Lucky I bought this last summer for $20.
I'm out of my classical/jazz mode for the moment, so there's really nothing to buy out there. I considered buying the latest NIN release on Blu Ray, but I didn't like it enough (it was only instrumental). Lets hope for some...
I'm surprised this one is still there. They have about 15 titles total between DVD-A and SACD. Unfortunately, the only thing they have that I still want is some George Harrison SACD, but I seem to remember it was overpriced for a totally random buy (don't remember the $$$).
Almost forgot, I picked up Santana's Supernatural today on DVD-A. Not really a favorite, but it was inexpensive and I like a few songs on it. The selection of DVD-A's and SACD at my local best buy is really getting thin these days....
Got a copy of Anne Sophie Mutter doing Vivaldi's Four Seasons on DVD-A today in the mail.
Looks like I'm going to have to get a couple of splitters, or invest in a universal player of some sort when I move back home at the end of the summer. Unfortunately, to make the gear work I have now...
Just ordered the Eagles Hotel California on DVD-A since I have access to one for a while. If I like it, it'll give me some more reason to spring for a Marantz universal player in the fall. Annoyingly, though, I won't have enough slots on my HK receiver to use it for a DVD player, since my Xbox...
Not my normal SACD, but I was in Best Buy today and I noticed a small sampler package in the HD-DVD section. It turns out that it was NIN's Beside You In Time HD-DVD sampler. It has five songs:
March of the Pigs
Closer
Beside You In Time
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like A Hole
The package...
Finally got Whites off Earth Now by the Cowboy Junkies, as mentioned above. I'm quite satisfied with the sound. Unusual packaging, though. The jury's still out on that part.
Well, I'll find out soon, I ordered it, and it's sitting in my building manager's office. If I can get home before they close, I'll be listening to it tonight.
In any event, the two channel thing doesn't bother me at all. Some albums, like Dark Side of the Moon work well with multichannel...
I'm with Paul on this one. I've loved this album for a long time, but I haven't had the chance to pick it up, and I've been a bit gun shy since I heard a pretty negative report on one of their later SACD's. I'd love to know how this one sounds.
The progressive rock/jazz description is as good as any. The SACD you're probably referring to is Gaucho. This is a great album, and sounds fantastic on SACD. If I were showing off my system, this would be one of the discs I'd use. Now if they'd only release Aja on SACD...
Interesting. I haven't listened to that one in a while, but I remember it as being quite good. I'd bust it out and listen to it, but I'm in the middle of listening to a bunch of Steely Dan on vinyl right now... :D
Hilary Hahn: Bach Violin Concertos, SACD
Leontyne Price, Reiner/Chicago Symphony Orchestra: Spain, SACD
Julian Bream, Popular Classics for Spanish Guitar, SACD
Probably the last for a while. I've been a little too aggressive buying these on a student's budget lately.
I just received Boccherini: Stabat Mater, D'Astorga: Stabat Mater, The Choir of the King's Consort on Hybrid SACD. It was a blind buy, trying to experiment with some new branches of classical music. While I'm enjoying this one, I doubt I'll pursue this area of classical much further.
I just picked up Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood. Unfortunately, it's one of those annoying single layer SACD's, but it was inexpensive at $14, so I can't complain too much.
Ouch. I'm hoping Whites Off Earth Now will be better. I thought a lot of their later stuff sounded a bit over produced. The first few albums definitely didn't have this problem.
Santa was good to me this year:
Beethoven, Spring & Kreutzer Sonatas: Anne Sophie Mutter
Beethoven, Violin Concerto, Romances: Anne Sophie Mutter
Beethoven, Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, Living Stereo.
All on SACD for when I need a little Ludwig Von to get me ready for a bit of ultra...
