There's a lovely tribute video to Veronica Lake on YouTube (Veronica Lake - Love Is Blue).

I accept that categorisation is subjective, but Get Carter isn't neo-noir. It's a gritty gangster film with no style, unlike say Chinatown.

Phil Karlson was a more dynamic director for film noir. Phenix City, one of his best.

Best scene in the film. Always preferred her to Bacall and it's an enduring shame she had such a small part.

Interesting article, thanks for the link. I have Prime and Netflix with a fast internet connection so no problems streaming. I find streaming to be a different experience from selecting and playing a disc, as streaming is just entertainment whilst having a disc collection is a hobby. Similarly...

I have the Film Detective blu ray of KCC, good PQ of an excellent film. I like John Payne films and still waiting impatiently for Slightly Scarlet.

KCC is a great film but not film noir, it's a straightforward crime film.

Rogue Cop used to come up on want lists, but as you say, it's not a widely known film. Would be a rare pre-order for me if it came out, great film. Looking forward to Black Angel, fine film.

They star in the film Crook's Tour, which is a supplement on The Lady Vanishes blu ray (Criterion).

Sorry, but any missing Astaire + Vera Ellen is very urgent!

Great film. Wish Warners would release some of these RKO films on blu ray.

Sydney Greenstreet gave great performance in all his (few) films. One of my favourites is The Verdict.

I thought the film was a bit too short and would have preferred a better ending. The first time I watched it I was convinced the murdered people would have been linked by a jury or something as in The Missing Juror (1944).

I watched it again today. It's a favourite film of mine by a favourite director. Dorothy Patrick had a lovely face and was also featured in Violent Saturday (again by Richard Fleischer). Wish Warner would start releasing some of these RKO films, obviously starting with The Narrow Margin.

How does First Man compare to Apollo 13.

I love this film and think it a worthy sequel to 2001 although clearly not in the same class. For me this is Roy Scheider's best film and the first act where he is preparing to leave his family for the long voyage is superb. Then you have the sci-fi, and the good ending. Would like this on 4k in...

Watched the first two episodes of Jack Ryan. Very cliched and unoriginal and with a lot of profanity. Doubt there will be a second season.

Yes, and the television series at least on DVD.

The Man Who Never Was is a great film with excellent performances from the leads, particularly Clifton Webb who didn't appear in many films (good ones though). I think the blu-ray could be much better if it had some work like the superb 23 Paces to Baker Street (both partly filmed in London).

Great as Written on the Wind and The Tarnished Angels are, my favourite Douglas Sirk film has always been Has Anybody Seen My Gal - a wonderful comedy and feel-good film. Dorothy isn't in it alas but it does star Rock Hudson. Always hoping for a blu.

It's a shame she didn't have a bigger part in The Big Sleep as she was quite wonderful in it. Her death prompted me not to wait any longer for a UK/US blu-ray of Written on the Wind and I have bought the French release. Excellent image quality and as we all know Dorothy was wonderful in this...
