Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

It was a fleeting perception due to the very abrupt cut back to the apartment.

One final thought, at the end for one horrible moment it looked like they were about to use the tired 'dream' plot line.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

I watched it today. It's too long, too frenetic, and the CG is poor (except for the de-aging which was very convincing). Phoebe, who I hadn't seen in anything before, wasn't quite as irritating as expected. My wife (who was the reason we went) said it was sad to see Ford with his shirt off and...

Agree, versatile actor. After LC, Indi should have been recast (indi Jr) with Harrison Ford taking a supporting role as Connery did for him.

Same here, we watched the first three on consecutive nights last week, our teenage son liked the second one best!

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

There are too many films now which have replaced character driven plots for frenetic CG driven action. Much of this CG, instead of carefully augmenting narrative, looks very unrealistic and is incredibly expensive. Whether CG Indi 5 does well or not, at least we have the CG lite Cruise and Nolan...

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Some film series keep plodding on, often with diminishing returns both critical and financial. Indi is a special case because everyone agrees that the Last Crusade was such a perfect way to end the series with Harrison Ford. Years later they try and fail to recapture the magic. More years pass...

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

I have the blu ray singles of the trilogy and will upgrade these to 4k in due course, no interest in 4 & 5.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

The Last Crusade was released in 1989 and Crystal Skull in 2008 so a very long gap between them. The studio obviously felt that Ford was the movie and couldn't let go of him to make number 4 with another actor and have stuck with him as a geriatric leading man. This must be unique, to have a...

Agree that recasting after Last Crusade would have been preferable.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Obviously one of the (many) charms of Raiders is that it was mostly made in camera with a few effects laid on afterwards. I'm not against CG but some of them in recent films have been terrible. I would expect CG to be getting better over time but if anything it's making films look more...

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

There will be those (like me) who wish they had stopped at three with it's perfect ending, and others who want 6th and 7th films with Indi in his 90s. For me though, it's the same with the Star Wars trilogy, Toy Story trilogy (perfect ending at three), anything else should be left to filmgoers...

I went to see Crystal Skull with some enthusiasm and went away disappointed, therefore will wait for reviews of this as my expectations are so low.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Popular culture seems to be dominated by aged actors, directors, and musicians. For me this shows stagnation in the arts. Perhaps it is a long term trend as the global population ages, creativity (like innovation) peaked years ago and is in long term decline.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Apparently there is a review embargo on The Batman (presumably if they're bad it will affect pre booking), will be interesting to see if this becomes a trend. Indi 5 and Avatar 2 might be candidates!

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

The pandemic must have increased the nervousness around having an ancient lead for an action film. Just because you can do something (make an action film with a geriatric lead) doesn't mean you should do it! This would have been the perfect opportunity to recast and refresh but the producers...

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

They have done aliens and this film has a time travel element to help with having an elderly star (hope this isn't a spoiler).

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

I'm not suggesting that Ford should retire, many actors have given fine performances in their later years, it's just that making an action film IJ5 with an 80 year old actor is just a cynical attempt to cash in. It's not as if IJ4 was well received or much liked. After an iconical trilogy, it's...

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

The reason for the delay is probably due to protracted negotiations over insurance. Still i suppose they could always use some CGI if the worse happened.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Asking an 80 year old man to reprise a role he first played 40 years ago is just desperation and highlights the dearth of creativity in the industry.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Maybe it's just me but the Last Crusade should have been the last adventure. It's OK for younger people seeing the new film in theatres for the first time but it takes the shine off the earlier films for me when there is no apparent end to them.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

My favourite trilogy is Back to the Future for many reasons, one of which is that Zemeckis and Gale have said they will not allow their magnificent creation to be meddled with during their lifetimes. If only Star Wars and Indiana Jones had been given the same respect by their creators.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

I think Last Crusade just edges it for me as the best film. I really like the ending and thought at the time it was a superb way to finish off the trilogy. Watching the fourth one on release I just thought they were doing it for the money and not the art (and the money!) As for the fifth we...
