I doubt they sold 4000 in an hour. It’s probably more likely that “over 1000 left” is the highest value that their software is set to display on the site.
It’s my first purchase from the company and I’m happy to give them a try. Their selection of titles is generally outside my wheelhouse so this was a nice opportunity to finally check out their wares.

That was not the Twilight Time business model. The vast majority of their titles did not sell out their 3000 copy allotment, or only did so after steep discounting over a prolonged period in time.
Sony is now free to put it out themselves or to relicense it to another party if they so choose...
Mad Magician was a Twilight Time title - that company’s business model involved licensing the right to only produce 3000 copies of a particular title. They did not have the right to make more once they sold the 3000.
I don’t think anyone meant to suggest it was Jaws 3D; I think Jaws 3D was mentioned as an example of what the camera optics from that era looked like in response to a question of what the presentation quality could be like.
It’s not exactly greed most of the time. Modern 3D conversions are created not by taking the 2D version and generating a second eye view, but by taking the 2D version and synthesizing both a new left eye and right eye, so that neither eye view is actually the true 2D version. In those cases...
