Two of the shorts are on the Flicker Alley Mack Sennett Blu-ray set. They windowboxed everything on that set for reasons unknown but they’re there - Dentist and Fatal Glass of Beer.

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

Historically one of the problems with doing audience surveys for disc releases is that the poll results don’t track sales numbers. That’s why the big studios don’t do them anymore. What would happen is, they might give a list of five or ten titles to choose from, and the winner might get 10,000...

All the same 80s era home video master, complete with the MCA Home Video logo at the beginning. It’s a fantastic film ripe for rediscovery. I hope that other Fields-adjacent films like If I Have A Million sell enough units to justify kicking the tires on Six Of A Kind.

Another update: ordered a copy from Amazon this morning and it arrived this afternoon, for about $10 less in total than what Kino refunded. I am thrilled to have this lesser-known gem on Blu-ray at long last. Though it’s nearly 100 years old and a million doesn’t go as far as it used to, the...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

Update: though Kino has not responded to my email requesting a refund, I see that a credit has just been refunded to my card. Though the communication and situation were less than ideal, I appreciate that they ultimately made it right.

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

This is the first time I’ve had an issue as well. I understand that mistakes happen and that everything is still a little wonky in terms of shipping and delivery. I’m normally pretty forgiving but I don’t feel they’ve been respectful of my time, money or support in this specific instance.

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

The fact is, they fulfilled Amazon’s order before their own preorders, and then blamed their sale (which began after If I Have A Million’s street date) as the reason for why it was late. They have suggested that it was because I combined it with a sale order, but as a single item preorder, that...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

It is now five months since I preordered “If I Had A Million” direct from Kino including an $8 shipping charge, three months since my credit card was charged for it, two months since it’s release and one month since Kino stopped responding to customer service inquiries asking for an update or...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I’m in a hold pattern for a single item preorder I placed in January that was released in March - i was billed over a month ago but it hasn’t shipped and they’ve stopped responding to my customer service inquiries asking for either an update or refund. This is the first time I’ve had an issue...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I agree. I wish they’d just refund me so I could order it from Amazon. I was trying to do the right thing by ordering direct from them to show support, and no good deed goes unpunished. I think that’s the real problem. I don’t think they actually have their allotment of the title I ordered in...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I usually don’t complain about Kino’s shipping, but I’m starting to get annoyed that a single-item preorder placed in January and released in March still hasn’t been shipped, even though I’ve been billed and paid an $8 shipping charge. Their customer service was polite but basically told me it...

Yes, he’s joking. Gary is very passionate about more lighthearted fare from that era - a taste I share too.

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I would be willing to bet that there is very little overlap between “popular films that sold well in other formats and are likely to sell well if released in 4K” and “less popular films never released on Blu-ray due to lack of demand that are unlikely to move huge numbers of units if released in...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

It’s a great little road movie gem that I think is worthy of reappraisal. I don’t expect that it’ll suddenly become as popular as something like It Happened One Night but I think it’s the kind of movie where its star pedigree (and Leo McCarey’s presence in the director’s seat) might cause the...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

If it were me making the releasing decisions I’d almost have to consider a double feature or multi-film set with two movies per disc on the remaining titles (assuming that the titles were available for licensing and the terms of the license didn’t preclude that) - the best known Fields titles...

Depends on which films you consider to be “Fields films” vs films he had small appearances. Of the feature length sound films, here’s a loose breakdown. Of the major appearances that are owned by Universal today, the following are left: -International House -Tillie and Gus -Six of a Kind...

I hope there might be some more W.C. Fields coming in the future - I’ve rewatched every disc Kino has put out with him far more than I usually rewatch discs. Those have been absolute treasures for me!

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I tend to doubt it in the immediate present if only because they’ve made physical media versions available for films they’ve financed and released to theaters (and their service) in the past. If Amazon stops making titles they own available for physical media down the road, I think that might...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I don’t remember exactly what it was - there had been something with the audio sync on one of the tracks on one of the two versions of the film included if memory serves. This was back maybe three years ago and they were pretty quick to correct it so my thinking is that there aren’t that many...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I didn’t have any issue with my copy. It looked like a film from the era it was made in that was in reasonably good condition without an extensive state of the art restoration.
