The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

One of these days I suppose I could try to marry the audio track from the DVD with the missing line to the BD with the better picture quality.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

This edition released on Blu-ray by VCI in 2012 is the one to get: https://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Carol-Blu-ray-DVD-Combo/dp/B008UY8FKK/ref=tmm_mfc_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1513288104&sr=8-4 I would personally avoid any of the colorized versions, as they were done in standard definition in...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I'm thinking about picking up some of the older TV versions of Christmas Carol. Anyone have any thoughts on the following: -The Christmas Carol (1949 half hour, Vincent Price narrates) -A Christmas Carol (1954 hour long musical with Fredric March) -Stingiest Man In Town (1956 hour musical with...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Well, the actual pies were for dessert on Christmas Day. I worked til midnight on Christmas Eve last year, got to my mom's house around 2am (my wife and mother in law were already there, asleep) and listened to Sir Patrick while I did the cooking. I mixed in reduced maple syrup with the corn...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I love the audiobook read by Stewart. I listened to it last Christmas Eve while I was making pecan pies.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

So would 78 minutes be the correct running time? According to the Legend website that's what the BD is: http://www.legendfilms.net/retailProductPage.php?item_num=LF00559 Whether I'm adventurous enough to take the plunge, I'm not sure yet. I have the Reginald Owen, the Alastair Sim, the...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I finally got to watch this! I watched the Sim version first, and then followed it with the George C. Scott, and finally, the Reginald Owen (over three nights). I also listened to the unabridged Patrick Stewart reading of the audiobook beforehand, which was wonderful in and of itself, but also...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

The debtor scene was indeed unique to Sim and not part of the book. (I listened to Patrick Stewart's unabridged reading of the story the night before watching the SIm, which ended up being great for comparing the film to the original story.) In the story, the first interaction Scrooge has is...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I tried watching this last night - it would have been my first time - but there was something weird going on with my disc. It was very stuttery/juttery, almost as if every other frame had been removed. (I have the most recent edition.) The included DVD did not appear to suffer from the same...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

If it hasn't been mentioned in the thread already, the television series "Doctor Who" did a retelling of "A Christmas Carol" for their annual Christmas episode in 2010 with Michael Gambon playing the "Scrooge"-like part. It's my favorite of all of the Christmas specials they've done.
