I really wanted Moon Pilot on Blu - they have an old full screen DVD but I wanted a release in its original aspect ratio. I didn’t have serious hopes it would be released but given that they did Monkeys Go Home, it seemed anything was possible!

I’m not sure why you both seem to think it’s unavailable. It’s still in print through the Disney Movie Club. It’s exclusive to club members but it’s not a limited edition.

Disney released a Blu-ray of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea through their movie club nearly four years ago, in the summer of 2019.

The Official Disney Movie Club Blu-ray Exclusives Thread

Can we please not turn this long running and useful thread into yet another anti-Disney screed? This is a thread for discussing Disney Movie Club exclusive releases, not for complaints about what the main branch of the company may or may not have done.

The Official Disney Movie Club Blu-ray Exclusives Thread

Disney recently added Zorro to Disney+ so they clearly do not have an issue with making the content available. The most likely explanation is the simplest: catalog TV shows on physical media is one of the worst selling categories on disc, and Disney by and large is not interested in pursuing...

Well, those newly created masters need to come from something. Look, I do understand the objections and I personally wouldn’t mind a more “premiere night” approach. But I think Disney’s approach has undeniably been a success for them. They’ve kept several dozen movies, some of which are closer...

That’s two separate things you’re talking about, though - preserving the asset vs mastering for home release. They have excellent asset preservation and they take incredibly good care of their film elements. When they make new masters for home entertainment, they do make conscious choices that...

I would be delighted to add the Disney shorts in HD to my collection, but I’m not prepared to do it piecemeal at ten randomly selected cartoons at a time, particularly when there’s no announced game plan for what’s coming and when. I’ve been showing some of the shorts from the Treasures discs to...

FWIW, I was asked to participate in a survey a few months or a year ago about what kind of releases I wanted for featured titles - I suspect many of us got the same poll - and one of the options was for new combo packs of related films. I guess that option got some positive feedback.

Look, I’d like to own Song of the South as much as the rest of this group of enthusiasts, but this is a thread about Disney Movie Club exclusive releases, and right now, that does not describe Song of the South. The only thing continuing to bring it up in this thread accomplishes is making it...

There were leaked photos of them on set that came out a year before the film did.

Disney’s stock isn’t tanking, and releasing a now-obscure nearly 100 year old film that the general public isn’t very familiar with in a physical media format that they’re no longer interested in would have no bearing whatsoever on the company’s financials.

I’m sorry but it’s just exhausting to have to have a Song of the South discussion inevitably rear it’s head in each and every Disney thread when the facts on the ground have not changed one iota. The rights holder has chosen not to make this title available, as is their right to do so.

I think both things are true - the real world difference between a lossy Dolby Digital mono track and it’s original optical source would be negligible if at all perceivable - and it also wouldn’t have been a big effort in cost or disc space to do lossless even if there wasn’t a real bump in...

The Official Disney Movie Club Blu-ray Exclusives Thread

I think 1.33/1.37 was simply a matter of knowing that the film would play in theaters for a limited time, but then would air on television on places like his Disneyland show where it would be seen in that ratio. I think it’s fair to say the movie was composed for 1.66/1.75/1.85 (at that point...

The Official Disney Movie Club Blu-ray Exclusives Thread

This is old news - for better or worse, market research was done extensively in the mid-2000s by the major studios and it conclusively proved that for the vast majority of titles and purchasers, bonus features don’t drive sales. The studios even spent time putting out discs of the same titles...

I expect it will be 1.66 as that is what the newer master on Movies Anywhere is.

Existential question on Darby is whether to buy immediately or wait for reviews to make sure it has the original soundtrack. I’m ok with having both as options but if I can only have one I want the original. I wonder if the TV special will be in HD - that would be pretty sweet. I think it is...

And then on top of that, the overwhelming majority of theaters in that era were equipped to show films at 1.85:1 and 2.35:1, so 1.66:1 or 1.75:1 would have been 1.85:1 for all practical purposes.

Why wouldn’t it be? It’s been on offer for years. Every so often they’ll change the free blanket or whatever other trinket comes with it, but it’s been a pretty standard code for some time now.

Yeah, I’ve been debating for a while now if I like the movie enough to splurge on the UK edition. I watched it all the time as a kid (they would show it in school in 30 minute chunks whenever outdoor recess was canceled due to weather) but I don’t know if that translates into “must own” as an adult.

A quick update: a supervisor from customer service left me a voicemail while I was doing bedtime with the kids. She said that because the release was about ten years old, she wasn’t sure if they still stocked that title, but would research its availability and would follow up with me in a few...

Some of the detail they wanted took a long time to find, I actually think I lowballed the response time for the email. They wanted the make and model of each disc player I owned and the firmware numbers for each setup. That’s a lot of fine detail to ask when there’s no replacement program...

I just think there’s a better time to inform a customer that they don’t do replacements than after making them spend 10 minutes filling out a website form and another 15 minutes filling out an email form. A simple “We’re sorry but we are unable to replace discs” on their support page or as the...
