This is the first year in the last few where I was able to watch every best picture nominee before awards night. I also managed to watch every movie nominated for every major award (with the exception of one movie).
Despite the circumstances, I think this was a good year for movies.
So that we don't derail the topic, here are my thoughts on West Side Story from the official thread. Long post short: I think Spielberg somehow managed the incredible task of make the best parts (from the original) weaker, and the weaker parts better.
