Every 4K player I’m aware of has dual hdmi outputs for exactly that reason. Even my “cheap” Philips has them.

I would LOVE to be able to try an Emotiva processor. Unfortunately, their bumpy track record regarding processors makes me hesitant. I have an Emotiva era Sherbourn PT-7030, which is an outstanding sounding, no-frills processor, but it was always glitchy. Source switching was annoyingly slow...

It's a very nice unit, and there just aren't any deals out there. I'm surprised this one is still available.

There are multiple forces at play right now. First, hdmi 2.1 still seems to be a little half baked. Second, there are global chip shortages of all varieties. I don't know if that second one plays in to it, but odds are good. Availability of receivers and preamps is bad, to say the least...

Dave uses a MiniDSP, which pretty much eliminates the need for dual sub outputs. I use a single output for other reasons I don't need to pollute this thread with, but the controls on the SVS subs make them a little more flexible for this approach. Not the panacea a MiniDSP is, but pretty good...

Dave, I think you're needlessly working yourself into a frenzy. First, it's 18Gb/s for full 4K regular frame rate with HDR. Second, full compatibility with, once again, 4K regular frame rate with HDR is extremely easy. This is for anything other than high end gaming. In fact, most if not all...

I don't think it does, one... little... bit. With all respect to Sam, I think he forgets that not everyone is into high-end gaming. I'm one of those who has positively zero interest in it. Therefore, I am aware of absolutely no reason it's beneficial for me. The very concept of 8K for home use...

One deal I know of these days is the Marantz SR7013 on closeout at ListenUp in Colorado. They're a reputable dealer who's been around for decades. $600 off for a new unit might suit your purposes if it's in your price range, which it sounds like it definitely is.

I completely agree with you on Monoprice. They are similar to Outlaw in that respect, in that they just license units. Still, Emotiva has never made me very comfortable with their surround preamps. The Emotiva can actually do stereo subs, at the cost of two of the height channels. It's...

Yeah, that's the problem. It's definitely true that the 8K and VRR issues aren't actual problems in the real world for most people, so long as they don't game. For me the bigger issue is lack of availability. I'm an avid bargain hunter, and they simply don't exist. It can be enough of a...

At the very minimum, Marantz should offer Dirac as a purchased upgrade.

Actually, I'd forgotten that. Wasn't there something you had a problem with at first, but got it resolved? As far as replacing your Yamaha, I suspect it's best to wait at least a year. Things just seem to be completely screwed up at the moment with receivers.

They really are. It's actually a little difficult to justify in my book. Their preamps are pretty much in line with the price of other brands, but they're inherently more expensive. I have a couple higher end Marantz units (SR7012 and AV7703) but with patience and timing you can often find...

It is an unstable time for receivers. I'd probably stay away from Pioneer as well, and Sony even seems a little twitchy. So, unless you want to go with a premium brand like Anthem, then Denon and Yamaha seem to be the choices, or Marantz for upgrade. Of course, if room correction is a...
