Same as my AV7703. I need to give it a try, eventually. Have you used the MultiEQ App? Good to know. I hadn't seriously considered it, but I will when the time comes.

It's the only one I've tried, and it nearly scared me off the entire concept. I was using a higher end Pioneer Elite receiver as a head unit for a while and decided to give it a shot. It made my system sound like Bose.

Isn't it generally better to set any delay to 0 and make sure the speaker distances are correct in the receiver's speaker setup? Plus, Tom, would you explain exactly what the room size adjustment does? Is that the same as the "Q" setting?

Carlo, was this a mass of speakers piled up with all kinds of switchers and questionable power? It was Best Buy (Magnolia... is there a difference?) wasn't it? The better the speaker, typically the worse they sound in that kind of situation. For one thing, they have no opportunity to produce...

Believe me, I'm also tempted by the 3601. Size isn't a major consideration, fortunately, and I think it's not much bigger than my PB12 Plus/2 anyway.

Thanks Tom. And no thanks for making me lust for an S3000i.

The S3000i is actually smaller than the sub I have now. Not that it matters.

I should point out that Telarc recorded that symphony at least three times. Make sure to look for that specific one.

You're used to hearing the weaknesses of the Energy and, like most people, you've come to associate that with what a sub is supposed to sound like. Except a sub, for the most part, shouldn't "sound" like much at all. It should be a different sensation that's not heard. Like you were talking...

Definitely. Different crossovers. Look up the specs of the individual speakers for good starting points. Bump them up a bit from their -3dB point.

Better sub, plus sealed vs (what looks to me) not very well done ported sub. I mean, even the $200 BIC F12 I have upstairs has a flared port. My guess is, you'll "hear" it less, but feel it more. I suspect it'll integrate into the room better as well. BTW, damn you, Carlo. With my recent...

I've never done the sub crawl. It never seemed as practical a thing to do as it was claimed to be. I always thought it took some time and listening in a location to really hear how it interacted with the room. As far as questions about placing a sub, sometimes there are solutions you didn't...

Dave, in a certain way, your first statement seems to support the belief I'm seeing more and more around here to not even try (or suggest to anyone else) to do anything better than what's the easiest. Read the first sentence of your post again before telling me I'm wrong. What's the point of...

It sounds good to me. Holy smokes, you're gonna love that new sub.

To nit pick, I wonder about vibrations with disc players being close to the sub, which is one reason I have my sub on the opposite side of the front wall from the electronics. Like I said, this particular room is especially ideal for an HT, a lot more than what most people have available, plus...

Carlo, here are my gut feelings on where to start with the sub. I'd put it toward a front corner, close (2-4" to start) from one wall, probably the front wall, and 2-3' from the side wall, if you can. The other two walls will be far enough away not to be a factor and if the room is rectangular...

FWIW, I don't feel Carlo has been obstinate to anything I've said. We are working our way around some details, and that tends to lead to some misunderstandings of what's being expressed. What I find an awful lot of the time is not that what someone says is exactly wrong, but that it's...

BTW, when I was looking at Carlo's new sub, a chat from Tom V popped up. I've been looking at their subs for a couple years now, but when a chat popped up I never noticed it being Tom. Anyway, we had a short chat. He didn't ease my urge to upgrade to their S3000i over my SVS PB12 Plus/2...

Carlo, the location of drivers and ports will always influence how a sub should be placed in a room. Most of the time they aren't really omnidirectional. Your new sub, however, has a downward firing driver and a sealed enclosure. To me, that does make it essentially omnidirectional, which I...

Carlo, all that stuff is great, but I can't imagine how anything electronic can overcome physics. I could be wrong, but where subs are concerned, placement has to be first and foremost. The electronic adjustments, it seems to me, are for fine tuning once you have the best placement you can...

In my opinion, location is the most I've been thinking over this discussion, and do have some of my personal observations to contribute, but I'm at work, so I'll do it later. There do seem to be some universal goals, though. 1) You don't put the sub equal distance from any two surfaces, and...

You want suggestions? About anything from Enya. I can't recommend Dream Theater's "Dramatic Turn of Events" enough for some soul massaging bass. It's available from HDTracks, as is Enya's latest album. I highly recommend both.

I would ask Tom about it. It just seems that having a solid base under it should be an improvement, or at least desirable. I have an SVS PB12 Plus/2, which Tom also designed, and it has a built-in base plate as well. I would expect the biggest thing is that the air flow from the drivers isn't...
