I think that's exactly what the reflecting speakers can do. You won't get the distinct overhead sounds of an ideal setup, but how many people can do that? They fill in the front a bit, and that's something.
Unfortunately, your receiver clearly states that it's 7 channels. There's no facility to add an external amplifier for more channels. So, it's 5.x.2 or 7.x, which is standard in sub $1K receivers.
It looks like maybe you can keep all the speakers connected and switch between 5.x.2 and 7.x...
Those are the same banana plugs I use. They're a lot of labor to get installed, but you get nice, solid connections. They're available with different brand names
Regarding hdmi, since you're using a 1080 TV, it probably doesn't matter... for now. When I was upgrading to Atmos/4K capable...
Honestly, I’m doubting there’s any solution that will meet WAF requirements and will produce enough of a performance benefit to be worth the money. Is there any way to do painted in-ceiling speakers?
You shouldn’t have to secure them to the speakers. Just set them on top. I put a silicone trivet in between them, just so the ELACs wouldn’t be able to slide.
That’s a tough room. You might try aiming the front speakers forward, instead of angling them down, and putting the reflecting speakers on top of them. If the brackets can hold the weight.
BTW Mike, I expect reflecting Atmos speakers are your best compromise of all available options. You still need physical separation between their reflection and the front speakers to get the desired effect.
Personally, I would never have my L&R speakers mounted that high. It makes no difference if they're angled down. Their sound is still coming from where it's coming from. I'd consider having them lower and adjust the output from the reflecting speakers to compensate. I've been trying the ELAC...
Just a comment, Atmos speakers are supposed to go overhead, not just elevated. In my experience, reflecting speakers are capable of producing a more correct overhead direction, but are too diffuse, where height speakers create a more distinct direction, but lack the proper overhead direction...
The arguments over these variables will never end, I'm sure. Reflecting speakers probably work quite well in ideal situations and not well at all in others, like with vaulted ceilings. But, as usual, everyone wants everyone else to do everything the same way they do it. Having said that, I...
FWIW, I just got a pair of the current model on an open box special. My plan was to try them firing upward, but ultimately add another pair and surface mount them to the ceiling, aiming down. My HT is in the basement, and I can run speaker wire through the ceiling/floor pretty easily. In the...
