DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

Well if the soundtrack CDs (re-released in 1997) are anything to go by, the music masters for ANH are in FAR better condition than those for ESB and ROTJ, so that's really no excuse. In fact a whole new bunch of masters for ANH were recently found and it's those that can be heard on the CD...

Having a tribute to Jerry Goldsmith in your sig is a BAD thing? When did THAT happen?!? John

Again, any chance of finding out what these so-called intentions were? And why they did not apply to The Empire Strikes Back or Return Of The Jedi? Or the entire Indiana Jones trilogy come to think of it? Or ANY other film that's been treated to a new 5.1 mix... John

That's so "not the point". To fully appreciate film music you have to experience it as part of the movie, as well as away from it. I'm a lifelong admirer of Jerry Goldsmith. I have all of the albums he's released AND as many of his movies as I can get my hands on - and that includes the special...

I would like this question answered DIRECTLY by somebody at Lucasfilm. I would like somebody to tell me EXACTLY what the "creative" reason was for screwing up the soundfield in ANH? And there was me thinking George Lucas was a "perfectionist". John

I kinda liked the original "Ewok Celebration and Finale" (aka the Yub Chub song). Okay, maybe not the song itself but I love the moment when the Jedi ghosts appear and the ewok voices are replaced with a male voice choir. A magnificent, almost religious way to the end the trilogy...

I don't think this has been mentioned before so I thought I'd be contoversial and bring it up. The closing credits of TESB are now WRONG and need updating. Clive Revill is still listed as "Voice Of The Emperor" Just thought I'd mention it... John

Well I just watched The Empire Strikes Back. Picture: Superb Sound - Dialogue: Superb Sound - Music: Superb Sound - Effect: Superb In the sound department, it's everything that ANH wasn't. The continuing discussion regarding the flipped music...

Because most reviewers... well, most people... generally watch movies, but they don't listen to them! If more people listened to movies (and I mean really listened, and not just to the big explosions) then, for starters, film composers would be appreciated far more than they are...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

I just got through watching Episode 4 and I was kinda disappointed. The picture is beautiful. Astonishing. Better than ever. But the sound... oh the sound! First of all, the flipped music channels are REALLY distracting. It sounds completely wrong. Ok, so I'm a...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

You're saying that a complete flip of the left/right surround music tracks was "intended"? That essentially a 124-minute audio glitch was "intended"? If you're right then somebody at Lucasfilm deserves to be shot and Williams should politely decline scoring duties on Episode III...

Here's full details about the audio glitch from The DVD Journal. Was it too much to hope for that, after 7 years wait, these discs would be "perfect"? "A good friend of mine has brought to my attention the fact that John Williams' awe-inspiring Star Wars score has been severely...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

My set arrived from Amazon today. Giving "A New Hope" a spin in 1 hour's time! Woohoo! I'm a little concerned about the reports of a major sound glitch - the rear music channels switched - and a faulty frame in Chapter 40. I'll check 'em out for myself and report back...
