I'm in the same camp as you. If I were interested I'd definitely need the S/N as shown on the product and then contact JVC for their take.

True. I would guess it can handle units slightly heavier [the new JVC's seem to be in the 55 pound range] and they're probably working on either a new design or planning to update their specs accordingly. Either way I'd be more concerned about the ceiling studs. No anchor bolts for something...

Not entirely sure what you mean by "box" mount. Also, a pic of your current setup might be useful. This is the nicest projector mount I've seen at any price but, unfortunately, they only sell through integration channels.

That's heavy indeed. Here's a pic of my mount. No doubt it could handle that weight as it's built like a tank and, yes, I need to do some dusting up there. ;)

Wow! That makes me feel a whole lot better about purchasing the Epson 6050 over the 5050. It cost an additional $1000.00 but came with the Chief mount and a spare lamp plus an additional year of warranty.

I would suggest Tron Legacy. If that doesn't convert you, nothing will.

For me the 3D dilemma is the same as that of expanding physical media collections. I own titles I may never watch again yet I'll always own them and I also continue to buy discs. Similarly, I haven't actually viewed a 3D title in about a year yet I would never own a projector that lacked...

My bad. I obviously wasn't clear in my previous post. If I buy another projector it will almost certainly be laser based, otherwise why bother. My Epson isn't at all bad. I just believe the day good JVC options are available in the 5K range may come sooner than you.

I'm one of those people but I'm also capping what I'm willing to pay at about 5K. Maybe I'm being unrealistic but this announcement suggests a year or so of patience might allow that to happen due to typical tech trickle down.

My thoughts exactly. I'm still excited as this does seem to bode well for that happening in the no-so-distant future. Until then I'll stick with my Epson.
