Right. If you look at stats alone then Brady is the undisputed GOAT but we generally don't do it that way. There are other, less tangible, factors such as likeability, excitement on the field and integrity to name a few. In my opinion, Brady scores low in each of these areas. There's also...

    2020-2021 NFL Season

With all due respect to Brady and his legacy, I think the Saints actually beat themselves. Brady being the pro he is definitely capitalized on the miscues but you don't win championships with 4 turnovers and Tom had nothing to do with those.

    2020-2021 NFL Season

I agree. That was a hard game for me to watch because I generally like Brees and hate to see him go out on such a low note. He appeared to be saying goodbye to the game as he entered the tunnel to exit. I don't think any team can beat Green Bay at home so I would expect the Packers are...

    2020-2021 NFL Season

No argument from me. Landry was in so many ways a cornerstone of the NFL, which is why it was shameful how Jerry Jones handled his dismissal. Before then I was an ardent fan of that team. The 49er's actually had consecutive winning seasons in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

I like his mobility but he threw some questionable passes. There could easily have been 3 interceptions. Meanwhile we had this, which I thought was the most entertaining portion of this particular game.

Which one of these teams wants to lose more? LA or LV? Both appear to be doing their best to avoid another catastrophic win. OT starts now!

Agreed. Cam left his heart and soul in Carolina. Had he spent more time developing into a respectable passer there he might have been able to extend his career but no QB can last too long in todays NFL playing his rough and tumble brand of football.

    2020-2021 NFL Season

That was my point all along. People may forget but records are records and anyone who cares to do research will find them. 2020 will be notated as a year when all major sports were marred by COVID, exactly as it should.
  9. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

    Probably went something like this.
  10. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Of course and I would expect those years have asterisks as well. As I've said before, I'm very happy we're at least getting football this year and greatly appreciate the sacrifices it must take on the part of the organizations to keep it going but I don't place much stock in the actual results.

    2020-2021 NFL Season

...And there you have it. The networks will all freak at such a proposal. Meanwhile the NFL has little to gain either as they will ultimately get the same TV revenue, regardless. As Larry Fishburne's character in Deep Cover said, "the money don't know where it come from."
  12. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Changing the rules is one thing. Changing them solely to accommodate Ohio State and TV ratings is another entirely, not that this season really matters anyway. No matter how you slice it, history will record a huge asterisk aside all major sports for 2020.
  13. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Yea, that's probably the thinking here as Direct TV is all but dead anyway.
  14. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

I'm not a gambling man so perhaps the appeal is lost on me. I believe the end result of this strategy would be [as the article suggested] the dilution of the product. I remember someone once asked Eddie Murphy (in his prime) why he wouldn't do TV. His answer? If people can see you on the...

    2020-2021 NFL Season

I would probably place Dak at the higher end of "fine" but you're right, he can't carry the load by himself. Either way, he is the QB Dallas will likely need to put their faith in for the foreseeable future which is why I think his negotiating position is strong.
  16. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

I caught the second half. Lamar Jackson was in rare form. Also, I would say this season will be the best negotiating tool Dak Prescott could ever have hoped for.

With the possible exception of Ben, I think they all still have a few good years in them.

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Will be interesting to learn who they can get to take control of that train wreck and did they really need to wait until week 12?
  19. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

The Raiders came very close to being the first team to fall to the Jets. After last weeks performance I would have been asking for Gruden's head.
  20. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

For me it was when [more how] they fired the legendary Tom Landry. I grew up loving them as many did in the 80's but todays organization bears no resemblance to that one.
  21. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

That's true. Players are only paid if they are available to play or are legitimately listed on injured reserve. This is exactly why those who violate rules and cause others to lose money due to their disregard or ineptitude should be severely punished.

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Couldn't the Cowboys just forfeit the game. It's safer and would save Mike McCarthy the trouble of having to come up with a plan to lose. Apologies in advance to Cowboys fans. ;)

    2020-2021 NFL Season

I know what you mean but wherever there's big money there's... Well, you get it. For me it helps to consider it "Sports Entertainment." For pure "sports" in todays world you probably need to stay at the High School level or below.
  24. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

I could be wrong but I think the leagues position here is similar to States Rights policy. They try to let each individual franchise make as many of their own decisions as possible, as long as it does not negatively impact overall revenue of course. Given the diverse ideologies and attitudes...
  25. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Just another reminder that this season [like most of 2020] must be taken in context. It's great we at least have games to watch but they don't really mean anything given the circumstances. The term "sports entertainment" has long existed to describe the unholy alliance between pure sports and...
  26. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Yea, I couldn't even watch the 2nd half. The refs helped things along a bit but the Raiders played an absolutely abysmal game. It's rare that I say the Falcons deserved the win but they did today.
  27. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

My bad. Temporary cerebral malfunction but the sentiment stands. :)
  28. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Fired after a win yet the losing coach still has a job. If I were Mike McCarthy I'd start packing.
  29. John Dirk

    2020-2021 NFL Season

Agreed. While the actual game play may have been painful to watch, I enjoyed seeing Troy Aikman and Joe Buck mistakenly say "Redskins" over and over again. I think The Washington "Football Team" is simply ingenious as a failsafe naming strategy.
