You raise a good point. In the HT world we do tend to think of physical media as permanent but we shouldn't. With all data, a backup is recommended for the very reasons you mentioned.
I speak from experience. I just lost about a years worth of my own data because I lazily failed to back it...
... And there you have it. Personally, I prefer physical media. Although I admit it is probably heading the way of the dinosaur I'm not happy about it.
On the other hand I understand why others prefer streaming and it doesn't bother me in the least as there are many advantages.
Ultimately...
I will always prefer a disc, simply because that is [in my mind] the only way I can truly own the content without a middleman. I do begrudgingly acknowledge there will likely be a very steep decline in availability of physical media in the not too distant future.
You're a smart man. Keep it up. ;) Ironically, I'm currently viewing Arrested Development [already at Fateful Consequences E-11] on Netflix. My wife has completely different tastes and won't watch, so I'm a bit jealous.
Of course you're correct. I just want my physical collection to...

Again, please bear with me. I probably should have said 'third party players." The platforms you mentioned would all be dependent on a resident Vudu app, no?
i don't think Blu Rays were ever actually proven to be more durable than DVD's in real world conditions. In my opinion this argument is similar to "which car gets better gas mileage." Certainly some cars do better based on undeniable and provable facts but the main contributing factor is how...
Streaming is clearly more convenient. I'm a customer. But there is [in your case Vudu and in mine, mainly Netflix] standing between you and "your" content. They gave [delivered] it to you and they can take it away. That bothers me in today's competitive world.
I see two related but entirely different discussions in this thread.
Is physical media doomed - In my opinion the clear answer is "yes." Majority rules, as the dollars of uneducated ears carry the exact same face value as those of educated ears. The difference is there are infinitely more of...
