That was mentioned a lot for years. In fact, that complaint was lodged at all three leads at some point or another. For Shatner's part, I always saw it as how Kirk was at that time. Remember Decker's own assessment of Kirk early on... "Sir, you haven't logged a single star hour in two and a...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Besides the extra "VIEWER OFF!" and the "oh my God" - both from Kirk, the only other noticeable trim was while going through the cloud. There is a cut that can be heard in the music too. After years of listening to the soundtrack, I notice a jump in the music at one point in the DE. I forget...

Nelson. Great post. I agree that it's a color timing goof with that one shot with the green pennant stripes. If you notice, the space dock panels in the background are also not their usual rusty red color, but a pale blue-gray-green color. Just to briefly expand on my opinions of the...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Although I like certain scenes added back into the DC near the end, I'm not a fan of some of the trims early in the film, so the theatrical is my go-to. I just wish that one shot of the Enterprise in space dock didn't have the red stripes turned to green on the Blu-ray - I see it every time...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Do you mean... more than was already cut in the DC? Because some was cut. A noticeable cut can be heard in the soundtrack during the Vger fly-through where there is a sudden jump if you're familiar enough with the original track. I think a bit more judicious editing could have done more, but...

Yes. He also used them in The Andromeda Strain, in part because the same cinematographer was involved - Richard Kline. It's more noticeable in the widescreen versions since the 4x3 pan and scan videos kind of hide the effect being usually scanned to one side or the other of the split.

And, you see, I thought they all played it out exactly how they should have given where each character was at that point where the the story picks up. None of them were together, everyone was away from space for at least several years. Kirk, I assume, had a desk job and was getting antsy...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

I agree. Those ship matte paintings at the end are the only sore spots for me. Everything else, I love. Even the Spock space walk through the V'ger images which were also obvious matte paintings (as was the entire initial travel through the cloud) - they were just much better and artistically...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Yeah, that's really one of the worst matte paintings ever - that and the next side view shot of the saucer in that same scene. Its' a shame that those paintings got approved for use at all, but they could have happened near the end of production when time got tight. Just a guess, of course. I...

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Not all of us here feel that way. I loved it back then (I saw it in its first run too) and love it more today. Still preferring the original theatrical cut to the Directors Edition (although, I am okay with about half of the changes). I love Trek 2 also, but I appreciate the effort and spirit...
