Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

So here's something completely different. Is any HTF thread longer than this one? It's been a long time

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I could certainly wish for better releases, but vei has released a lot that no one else would. As for McCloud, importing from Australia was always too much. I’m glad for something affordable

Amazon Prime has all of McCloud except the Rick Nelson episode (probably a music issue). McCloud was on my wish list for a long time. Glad VEI released it.

That sounds likely. What other CBS owned shows have existing tape elements that might be used? Has the original music been used on more recent My Three Sons releases?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I don't know when the maximum copyright date of various 50s shows may be, but allowing something to go public domain would remove it from the balance sheet, which would impact any company's borrowing power. It's not likely to happen with a major studio at this point in time.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

CDs are not region locked, and just about all Bear Family titles are available from U.S. sellers. My biggest problem with availability in Austrailia is shipping. I have looked into ordering the seven seasons of McCloud from Madman and shipping would add about 50% to the already relatively high...

Walmart is the biggest seller of westerns where I live. I bet it's them.

The UK release claimed to be the "complete series": http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adventures-Champion-Wonder-Horse-Complete/dp/B000B6F8N2/ref=sr_1_9?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1449680025&sr=1-9&keywords=champion. If anyone got this, perhaps they can chime in on whether the missing 3 episodes are included.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My understanding was that Roy Rogers sold his personal collection to one or maybe more collectors in the 1950s because he thought they wouldn't be worth anything. He lived to regret that. Gene Autry died with no chldren and an estate worth hundreds of millions. One fortunate result of that...

George C. Scott was always good.

So what you're saying is that the merger allowed Shout! to limit it's competition for the classic DVD dollar even if many of the shows released were different in genre and public profile. Makes sense.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've looked for that for years and haven't been able to find it. I asked Gord at TVSHOWSONDVD whether it had been actually released and he didn't know. I was able to purchase a copy of another Australian cartoon, Around the World in 80 Days from VEI as a third party seller, but it is very hard...

I have the Christmas Ed Sullivan DVD and there are a lot of complete songs on it. Although I don't expect an "complete shows," I expect complete songs will be the case with the rest of this set. Some performances were oddly truncated.

Not at all. Almost all of the original shows are out there. Not everything was rebroadcast on armed forces radio, but most are available from the start. Only a few from the first 100 are missing to my recollection. May be your source.

According to the Amazon listing: http://www.amazon.com/Waterfront-TV-Collection-Preston-Foster/dp/B00OHLRAJW/ref=sr_1_9?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1416466384&sr=1-9&keywords=waterfront, this show starred Preston Foster and Willie Best, the famous black film actor of the 1930s and 1940s. I'd be...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

It would probably make sense for them to release it as a complete series like a lot of old shows. It might be on their radar, but CBS might be trying to sell off some of their remaining stock of season 1 first. Just a theory.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

It's possible that the Henning family's license of season 1 prints to MPI also licenses the music owned by the Henning family (namely, the theme song) and precludes them from licensing the music for season 1 to anyone else. Otherwise you're right. An official first season would be great.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Given that all of the major syndicated B&W shows (except maybe Roy Rogers) have gotten a release, you're probably right. However, my thought is that as there are still a lot of B&W westerns someone might do well by trying to move into the old Timeless niche. The most likely candidate for that...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Of course a kinescope is a film, but it is a film of a television monitor, and I at least don't think it looks as good as a show filmed directly (like I Love Lucy). Anyway, the argument about the Jack Benny set is here...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My recollection is that the encoding originally caused certain parts of the shows on the Christmas set to be skipped over. This was fixed by the time I purchased the set, which is great. The only kinescope related complaints I heard is with regard to the lost Jack Benny set with the complaint...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Grey Ghost was a CBS show. Is it public domain? Was there ever much chance of it's being released? As it's a rare show that takes place during the civil war and even focuses on Confederates, I would think that there would be some demand for it, but my understanding is that it was cancelled...

I'll probably pick this up at somepoint. It's interesting to have a western with a female lead. One extra that won't be included is where she shows up as a shooter at the end of Alias: Jesse James. Lots of great western stars in that: .

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I generally agree with you that I would prefer complete series or at least season sets of the other shows. However, I have no idea what is even in the realm of possibility for VCI, so I am not sure that frustration directed at them would be fair.

Here's the big B&W news of the day, the return of Zane Grey Theater: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Zane-Grey-Theater-Season-2/19686. Since Timeless/Shout is now issuing the second season of a show the first season of which was issued by VCI, I am hoping this patter will be repeated with...
