What's unfortunate to me is that we've had dozens of pages and a few threads about this set before it was released. Now that it's here, almost nobody is even commenting on it. What an odd phenemonon.
It took 10 years to come out with FVJ and there were all sorts of horrendous storylines that stalled it. Acting of the teens aside, I believe FVJ was well worth the wait, and much better than I believed it ever could have been. If the acting is on the level of a F13 film, so be it. After all...
I agree with you that JASON X takes place sometime after FREDDY VS JASON. And I actually think that turns out to work beautifully... because JASON X may always be able to serve as the absolute, all-time FINAL story whenever the series ends. No matter how many more JASON's they make - be it 3...
The Bonus Disc contains a half hour Fangoria Convention panel discussion from last January with four of the actors who played Jason. Some of what they talk about is already covered in the "chronicles" section of the Killer Extras, but there is some different stuff too. It's not the biggest loss...
Heh Heh. I wasn't going to bring things like this up unless someone else did first. I noticed that "Crazy Ralph" seems to get blurry and snaps back to clarity again on the original film, as he rides away on his bike and turns round the corner at the end of the road. I played it back a few times...
I listened to the group commentary for PART 3 and I enjoyed it very much. Really a lot of fun. I would have liked similar commentary for some of the other films, but alas, this wasn't to be. It's just really bizarre that this was afforded only to PART 3. Anyone recall the details of how and why...
Luckily, I was home today from work and therefore able to get to my Best Buy at 10 am when they opened. I first went to the "New Release" rack, and there was nothing there. Then I went to the Horror Section, and still nothing. Finally, I grabbed hold of the dweeb I see working there all the time...
Well, I went out as soon as Best Buy opened and bought the set. The first thing I did was watch the entire "killer extras" disc, so I've got some opinions on it. While watching all 8 editions of the "chronicles" coverage back-to-back, I'm afraid it only became more and more obvious to me just...
It's too bad she didn't reprise the role for FVJ. I mean, at her age, I'd think she'd be pleased just to be in a new and successful movie. Because whether she likes it or not (and I'm not sure how she feels) her role as Mrs. Voorhees in the original F13 is probably what she'll be remembered for...
It was actually a very good idea, especially at that point. I've always felt the whole problem with the movie is its TITLE. If the movie had been called something else (everyone jokingly uses the name JASON TAKES A CRUISE, which is too silly, but you get the idea) I think the reaction to the...
I don't know if I'm speaking for every F13 Series fan everywhere (though I'd bet I do to a large extent), but to those of us who were around to see Jason doing his thing in theatres during the 1980s, the whole point was that we didn't really "need" a character development for this madman, nor...
That's exactly how I've always felt. Somewhere around the mid to late 80s, the "horror film" became a joke. I've always blamed Freddy "Don Rickles" Krueger for a lot of that style with his "one-liners".
But it's possible to enjoy both types of films. You just have to get into whatever mindset fits that film. I love the better-made HALLOWEEN and I also love early "subtle" horror films with no blood at all from the 30s and 40s. But at the same time, I can enjoy a good stalk-slash-blood festival...
I'd agree with that completely. I think it was a good idea to have an ELM STREET direction, even though I'm a Jason fan and pretty much can't stand Krueger (though I think Elm Street 1 and 3 are very good).
I'm 42 and saw F13 PART 2 at 19. I became a tremendous fan, and waited for FVJ forever. I thought it was an excellent film for a "FREDDY VS JASON Teamup,", and perfectly managed to exceed both franchise's fans expectations. Both characters were brought together well, had some great fight scenes...
I recall seeing cable one day where the 1968 film TARGETS was about to be shown. A woman's voice came on and said: "Boris Karloff is a young drifter who becomes a sniper in TARGETS -- next, on CINEMAX!" Karloff was, like, 80 when he made the film, and he doesn't play the "young drifter".
Yes, this has gone on forever. Very few actors ever embraced their horror careers. Vincent Price and Boris Karloff were two of the exceptions, I'd say.
My opinons of the set (based on this and other reviews) are still pretty much what I've maintained all along -- Paramount really left a lot of things undone here and it's a shame, but yet I will indeed be buying the collection, especially at the lower prices I'm hearing about. I was hooked on...
