I like the idea. Streaming productions should give their films some theatrical play.

As time goes on, other notable directors- Tarantino, Fincher, P.T. Anderson and Wes Anderson could be added, sad to say. I think one of the guys I have listed will win one soon- a hunch.

As distasteful and wrong it is to exclude some from the passed away segment, I can sadly understand why they do it. If this segment feels too long, then those in “short attention span theater” mode will change the channel.

I’m one of the biggest Pulp Fiction fans around, and while I think Jackson was awesome, Landau was toe to toe with him for Ed Wood- great performance.

Nominated 5 times for director- Rebecca, Lifeboat, Spellbound, Rear Window and Psycho. At least Rebecca won best picture.

Top Gun: Maverick is an impressive film- much better than the first one. I don’t think it has a shot at best picture, but I think it deserved the nomination.

Wow- been forever since I’ve seen this film.

Hirsch- remember, Beatrice Straight won her Oscar for basically just one scene in Network, and Ned Beatty was nominated for just one scene in the same film. Bizarre, but not unprecedented.

Not a real surprise. I have read comments at another site on Oscar threads in the past that some feel the Academy’s choices aren’t for the everyman. I think the Academy has to try to pull in more casual film fans to try to reverse the downturn in TV ratings.

Glad to see Farrell get nominated. A tad surprised Banshees didn’t get a cinematography nomination.
