Re: TMP runtime:
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
132 min | USA:136 min (director's cut) | USA:143 min (TV version)
has any1 watched the TV cut? i'm assuming 143min. doesn't include commercials.
re: director's cut, furthermore, there are a lot of scenes shortened to heighten tension. it's not just added audio or extended CG scenes and what not, it is truly a "director's cut" in every sense. i much prefer it because of those reasons. it's finally "finished" according to wise, not in the...
wasn't it PIXAR who did the GENESIS planet fx?
aaanywho, i warned all ya'lls =). having seen the trek films on BD now, i still say it's a wee bit better than the HD broadcast caps i put up... but NOT BY MUCH! wrath of kahn definitely looks better... but man did they waste an opportunity. gonna...
remember my prophetic predictions ;)
paramount went totally cheap on one of its most profitable franchise. imho, taht doesn't make any biz sense except to differentiate this vs. the eventual double dip
i TOLD U GUYS!. paramount are cheapskates even though trek is one of their most successful and profitable franchises ever.
anyways, here are some direct digital screencaps from TMP:

referencing star trek v?
and BTW it's not so much for the content itself this time (as i still am waiting for SE/DC), it's mostly about satisfying the blu-ray urge in me. the HTF crowd is probably the only krew that knows exactly what i'm talking about when i say that getting a crappy...
i'm going to be a hypocrite :frowning:
i ordered these discs when the price went to around 80 per set, which makes the 6 films to be around $13.33 per movie. :D
i'm 2much of a Blu-Ray freak not to get it.
before 1 became a movie, paramount wanted to bring back star trek as a tv series "Phase II". all those ideas morphed and eventually turned into the film.
all of the TOS trek films look dirty.
i doubt 2 will be that drastic of a difference like the Bond remasters. it'll still be the low-budget film that it is. i just wouldn't pour that much expectation into it.
TOS non-Lucased edition on BD=
FINALLY!!! that's why i didn't get it on HD DVD when TOS came out. it was SE only. this is the proper way to do it! now we want the rest! S2&S3!!
sure, short sell everything since all stox will continue to drop til november 5th, 2010, then it'll start climbing
my point about the art is more about paramount's attitude toward the treatment of the franchise.
the reason why the titles from paramount u guys have listed are good is...
jason, the color disc shows you paramount does not care about its movies or HD or any of this nonsense. if they cheap out on the disc art design, they cheap out on film negatives, they cheap out everything until digital content creation prices have come down to make them rethink their strategy...
are you talking about paramount's own BD or are you talking about BD in general?
almost ALL OTHER studio (non Paramount) have better artwork on their Blu-Ray disc itself than Paramount releases. i have 300+ discs :D.
i don't need to freak out. i already know. paramount will cheap out on these...
u dont need to wait til may. the evidence is right in front of us plain as day:
just look at paramount's Blu-Ray discs themselves on all their recent releases, no artwork. i think even transformers was just gray. and that's it. they are just so damned cheap. exception is Godfather, but hell...
 see what i mean? paramount definitely went el cheapo on these. they're still treating trek franchise as a bastard child of film history. ah well, ce' la' vie or somn like that. i'd still get... but won't be on release date, probably as a 2nd hand used product blu-ray :D. if they are...
see? i wasn't the only one ;). i hope paramount reads this thread. i should email paramount and link them to here, lol. after all, we're the ones buying their discs!!!
indy4 is an example of a good PQ and audio quality. i'd like to see my paramount BDs be more like that!
like many of u, i will...
godfather stems from coppola's desire to do it and telephoned spielberg's power/cloud while dreamworks was still chummy with paramount to make this happen. paramount didn't do it on their own and was probably resistant to the idea.
indy is more lucas/spielberg than paramount.
so neither counts...
is there a list of what paramount has released as a part of their older/catalog movies on hi-def either HD DVD or BD? i have to say, other than Godfather trilogy, paramount has not done a good job with presenting older classic catalog titles. they seem to 'go with the flow' when necessarily...
paul,
if u have been following how paramount charges anytime they released a new DVD for ANY trek franchise, brand new releases all get the 'fan-price markup'. ask all of the hardcore fans who spent the first $100+ per season of any of the series. it's like they know they can get it from the...
DC adjusted the pace/tempo of the theatrical cut. it is quite significant in changes of the cuts, not just extended new material itself.
i hope they release all of the films separately. i don't want to buy the crappy theatrical cut in a stupid box set =P. hopefully they do it like planet of the...
