The PTB can correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression is that the bug WAS fixed, and only threads that were created during its, um, tenure are affected. I think to fix this thread it would have to be closed and its contents copied to a newly created one, the original buggy code being integral...

One interpretation is that Threepio had finally gotten a clue and started being coy about what he knew about the Rebellion and its participants. He blabs about "the Rebellion and all" until Artoo whistles at him, then suddenly he's no good at telling stories and doesn't know who's in the...

That's a neat Sandcrawler shot, although it doesn't serve to demonstrate the restoration of the original footage, as that was a new shot created for the '97 SE.

Leia's future might be interesting, as long as they don't follow the novels. Book after book of Senate politics. Yawwwwwn...

'97. They did film the troopers running into the room (stills were printed in Star Wars Insider a couple of years ago) but not the Wampas laying waste to them--if indeed they ever intended to depict the massacre using anything but offscreen growls and screams. Concerning the vest/no vest...

Noticed a couple of subtle fixes: 1) On the approach to the Death Star, during the line "Red Leader, this is Gold Leader", you can see two Y-Wings through the side window of the cockpit. In previous versions, those two Y-Wings (but not the starfield) disappeared in the last frame of the shot...

That scene never had any music. Not a particular Kodak stock used for much of Star Wars. Buried somewhere, I have articles from several industry publications discussing how that stock's tendency to deteriorate has adversely affected several films shot around that time.

While the Ronto was a 1977 SE addition, the droid has always been there.

(warning: OT) Actually all that means is no one knows who the hell's in the picture. After all, if they were also obsessed, they wouldn't have to ask, would they? To be honest, when I first asked you I wasn't sure if you were making a positive or negative comment about her, as I didn't think...

No, blanks don't sound like that. In fact, guns don't sound like that! It's a stock sound effect that's been around for decades. (The original mono mix of The Terminator uses it when the T. takes out the first Sarah Conner vicitm, for example. I believe it's in Dirty Harry, too. Magnum, P.I. as...

Some original sound mix tidbits: There were originally three sound mixes. First was a Dolby Stereo--2 tracks only (not matrixed for surround). Then a six-track (really a glorified four track) for 70mm. Then a mono (because mono projectors could not read stereo tracks at the time). Due...

Good question, Clayton! ...although the THX program itself didn't start with Star Wars. With Jedi they started TAP (Theater Alignment Program) that became (or influenced) THX years later.

Great list, Neil! Coupla thoughts: The "1993 mix" is generally believed to be the original 6-track 70mm mix dumped down to Dolby Surround. Despite the claims to the contrary on the Definitive LD insert, Burtt has stated that the 97 mix had been the first time he'd mixed Star Wars in 20...
