This really isn't a shock to me. Lower Decks isn't my style of Trek, usually, but I wasn't hoping for it to go away, either. Any Trek is welcome for me.
I agree with everything @Josh Steinberg said. Ten episodes vs. twenty-four was theoretically supposed to mean bigger and badder episodes in...
"Caves" was amusing and knew exactly what it wanted to do: comment on the plethora of Trek which takes place in cave. But that's a plot device. What did this episode tell us about the characters or humanity we didn't already know?
Sure, it's "fun" and riffs on Trek lore, but that's all I got...
Really enjoyed T'Lyn in the third episode. The writing is just droll enough and Vulcan-y to be believeable, but also LOL funny.
Her bit about the volcano was great.
"Twovix" was a really fun episode for me. It's a loving homage to Voyager with lots of call backs for fans; for the non-fans, I think there's enough there to pique curiosity in going back to the series. And, finally, these characters act like Starfleet officers (for the most part). It's a long...
I guess it was inevitable, but a Bad-miral finally shows up here.
This was just a yawn episode for me. There were a few good parts, but the Cerritos being blasted to hell every other episode is getting tiresome. Freeman being a near-terrible captain is getting tiresome. This idiotic great...
First, kinda happy to know I'm not 100% out of step on this episode with you guys.
Second, there are things I liked about it...Hertzler and Combs are in the guest voice cast.
The idea of a bird society is pretty nifty; this is the kind of world stretching animated Trek should be doing. Even...
"A Mathmatically Perfect Redemption" ... I was on board with everything that happened in the first act. I was laughing and enjoying it even if I wanted to crush Peanut Hamper against the nearest the tree. Arrogant, vile, gross personality on an Exocomp, but that's the character ... fine, I won't...
100% agreed. Maybe I was in the mood to watch LD (and maybe I haven't been in the mood for the show since it began), but "Reflections" felt very real to me. Sure, Boimler going off half cocked WASN'T real, but I was enjoying all the references during his meltdown. Very enjoyable episode.
Yes, but a gold-ish ship isn't something we've seen a lot, if ever, in Trek. Also, the nacelles looked super cool to me when it was being commandeered.
Also really liked the Ketracel White Hot Sauce, Boimler and Mariner’s reactions to it, Rutherford’s sweater paying homage to Jake Sisko…I even like the new look of the Cerritos.
Not for a second for me. But that is also how I view the entire series…none of this can reasonably be happening alongside or shortly after the 24th century shows. I simply don’t buy any of it. Not the Bozeman Theme Park, not the Cerritos, not these missions, not the way these characters act…none...
I've been a pretty big critic of this show, but "First First Contact" is near the top of Lower Decks episodes for me. Just about the only part which was dumb, dumb, dumb for me was Cetacean Ops. If I look at it from the lens of homages, though, it marries Star Trek IV with seaQuest. I am a...
The more we see the Pakleds in Lower Decks, the more I keep thinking "this show has given them more screen time than they have had in the totality of Trek since they were introduced in TNG: S2 Samaritan Snare." Gotta give the show credit for that, at least.
And I did enjoy seeing the lower...
From the article:
Debuting from Lakeshore Records — the same label managing Discovery and Picard soundtracks — the first Star Trek: Lower Decks soundtrack will arrive on the usual array of digital services October 8 with a whopping 53-track collection of composer Chris Westlake’s music from the...
In theory, the idea behind this episode isn't a bad one: have the upper and lower decks switch places and see how they fare doing the jobs/being in the positions of the other side of the crew. I actually like it and could be full of character building for every single person involved. But...
The Evil Computer storyline...yes. It gave Boimler and Mariner something off ship to do (though I don't like the of Mariner telling Ransom--the XO--to take Boimler off the other mission) and allowed Boimler to mature as a character and officer. I like he had a plan the entire time, executed on...
I couldn't agree more and I've been saying this for a long time about this show.
Same. Like you, I'm trying to focus on the things I really liked.
For instance, while the use of the Pakled's as big nefarious enemies is pretty stupid, IMHO, the gag of a bigger helmet continually coming out...
Is it really any different than the Captain's Table concept in the novels? I haven't read them (yet) but I think I know enough of the general idea that it's a place for captain's only. (Sure, that means Freeman would be included, but ya know...) I could extrapolate an exclusive guest list like...
"An Embarrassment of Dooplers"...something about the idea of a Doopler is incredibly corny but also struck me as funny AF. It's a concept that couldn't be done anywhere in live action Trek since it's so stupid and works here amazingly well. I 100% understood when Ransom said the last week on the...
Same reason I watched all seven seasons of Voyager and the four of Enterprise. And Nemesis, Into Darkness and all the others; I am a Trek fan. I guess I didn’t realize I was supposed to check my brain at the door.
Did I laugh once or twice? Sure. When Boimler says to Rutherford, pointing at...
“It’s a cartoon” so it gets a pass. Got it.
TOS was a sci fi show in a time when sci fi was about ray guns and relegated to Saturday morning kiddie fare. Gene and those writers dared to make sci fi adult, to do something different.
I don’t think I’m taking the show too seriously. I’m simply...
I just rewatched the chase scene and T’Ana says it was kind of quick and she’s not sure why she made such a big deal out of it. So, okay, she never says it would hurt.
I guess this is symptomatic of every single problem I have with this show: the characters barely make sense. There’s a whole...
