Agreed. Wilson Cruz hasn't been given the most to do on this show...either the writers have no idea what to do with him or an outcome of the 10 episode seasons. In any event, it looked like he was having fun in "Jinaal."
This is all I was looking for. Some explanation, something that makes a...
So my issue, and again...I won't harp on this all season long...is that this was never followed up on in a televised story between 1993 and 2024. That's a long time in real time and not a lot of TV seasons, to be fair. Not a whiff of Progenitors or Red Directive or anything else. Not once. DS9...
"Red Directive," while fun, feels like a "hey, we've been gone for such a long time, we have to remind the audience what's going on." The reception/cocktail party scene was hard for me to watch...the actors seemed to be trying to find their footing again and nothing they did/said actually landed...
Different strokes for different folks, of course, but Season 3 was the exact right story with the exact right ending for something airing at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021. It's about connection, why we are all important to one another and how being isolated (like Sukal) can lead to negative...
That's the rub for me, though. There are no seatbelts for both in-universe and practical storytelling reasons. Does that mean that all the shows are "less than" because there are no seatbelts? No, at least not to me. It's internally consistent. This is also a TV show which has to have something...
So..."rocks and flamethrowers" when there are subjective "drama and stakes" is good, but otherwise not? That makes less sense than the rocks coming out of the bulkheads.
Anyway, I am looking forward to Season 5 starting this week. Discovery ushered in more Trek for us, regardless of what anyone...
Three installments which are considered pretty great all have the issues you've identified. Again, no one has said Wrath of Khan is a bad movie because of the fire...therefore, I don't see why this is logically held against Discovery.
I'm not even debating the physics or science of any of...
Fair. So I think, based on this, we need to reevaluate episodes like "Yesterday's Enterprise, "Year of Hell" and dozens more, along with their associated series.
Does this thing...the "flamethrowers" and "rocks"...make a bad show? Not to me, but to each their own. That is like Dennis the...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the same thing happens on the Enterprise-D, Defiant and Voyager. Was this nitpicked in the same way when those shoes were airing? Just curious...
Not ridiculous at all. When DS9 had Kassidy Yates turn Maquis, she went to prison for a while and wasn't on the show. When Keiko went to Bajor to do what she does, Rosalind Chao left unless they wanted to write her back for a specific reason. Book should be gone, in prison and out of mind for...
Fifth and final season starts April 4. First two episodes are available together and then every Thursday from there on out.

Tryla Scott. :)
Also: Captain Louvois ("Measure of a Man"), Captain Garrett ("Yesterday's Enterprise"), Captain Silvia LaForge ("Interface"), Captain Benteen (DS9's "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost"), Captain Cusack (DS9's "The Sound of Her Voice"), Captain Janeway.
And a ton more were...
Read it as you wish. They don’t need to be a major recurring story point. They simply do exist. The fact they’re not in every scene or a major recurring plot point is immaterial.
If they did not exist in universe, the word would not have been used.
I 100% understand reshoots and they happen. My bigger concern is will this be an Enterprise style finale or something like DS9. In my mind, a production needs to know you’re going into the final season to write it properly. I don’t think that happened here or else we would have heard about it a...
Something in that article is sticking on my brain.
They wrapped production and then went back and added filming days.
This, to me, means they didn’t plan on Season 5 being the end and had to go back and film new stuff to retrofit the season finale into a series finale. Or to make the season a...
Hitting the news…

This does make me sad, honestly.
I think this was my one quibble with the episode (aside from a not great zoom out effects shot, IMO, at the end). Book threw his lot in with Tarka, they attacked an alien species and almost started a war. This is a Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200 moment for me. Reasons be damned...actions...
Be back tomorrow with actual thoughts, but “Coming Home” stuck the landing in a million different ways for me. I needed the optimistic episode tonight. And that was as optimistic and positive as I could have ever hoped for.
Officially given up on waiting for a season finale trailer to hit. It's not on ST.com, though promo pics were released earlier this week. Seems strange to me not to promote the season finale with a trailer unless something mindblowingly unexpected happens and they can't cut a trailer without...
The trailer for next week's episode is normally out on Friday nights, local time. I can't find it on StarTrek.com or YouTube. I can't imagine there won't be one for the season finale...I'll keep an eye out for it. 🤷♂️
I didn't love that part either (loved the rest of the episode, though), but it's all about Reno's little speech about the burned guy. She kept him alive for her, not for him. Tarka is doing the same thing, in a way: he's continuing with this mad quest because it defines him and who he is. Take...
I am 100% on board with what you said, but I then have to wonder: does the audience have the stomach to watch our crew go through the same motions over and over on different planets? If there was a 26 episode season, they could be sprinkled through the season with other stories. But with a 13 or...
Figured I'd start my day with Discovery and then end after work (or lunchtime...) with Picard.
"Rosetta" was a very necessary step in the first contact mission with Ten-C. How do you hope to communicate with someone if you don't understand a thing about them? The simple answer is you can't...
First thing that comes to mind (not saying this is accurate, mind you) is that since the spore drive had not been tested outside their little box, they thought it would work everywhere. But until you actually test it, you never really know what happens.
Thanks Nelson! I'm sure it's not fool proof and a lot of holes could be poked in it, but that could be done with almost everything we consume anyway. :)
Your answer is probably the right one, Josh. I have a huge tendency to overthink things.
You won't believe the rabbit hole I went down to try and make sense of How I Met Your Father...
