Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"with all the damn nitpicking"Yeah, I'm glad that we don't have that now.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"but they could be 'restored relatively easily compared to other projects, and for a modest sum'."I don't know much about the costs, but I'm sure those original negatives have been kept in ideal conditions. There's a secret room somewhere...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"really jumped the gun and revealed this before Lucasfilm and Disney were ready."Which is why this rumor doesn't sound true. I hope that I'm wrong, though.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"But I'm still hoping that someone will ask the Lucasfilm reps that question in a direct fashion."At the very least they could shoot the rumors down. I hope guys like Bill Hunt can do some digging. :)

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"This would be the ideal forum for LucasFilm/Disney to announce blu-ray remasters of the original trilogy cuts.."Yes, I would say perfect timing since the new films are in production. I'm not holding my breath, but keeping my fingers crossed. Or something like that.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

It's probably covered in this thread about zillion times (sorry), but what are the "original audio" options for this trilogy? I mean perhaps they could also release those. Original mono (or similar) is not very unusual audio option.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Blade Runner/Alien set approach would be great, but unfortunately I don't see it happening. At the most they probably would release two versions (even that's doubtful as we can read from this thread's speculation):-Unaltered original versions.-Tweaked current BD versions. But to me the 4K...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Perhaps Disney is now trying to decide that should they do a full blown 4K restoration of the original trilogy (or are the current ones already 4k?). It would obviously cost a lot of money to start from scratch.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"To say that everyone is just guessing..."You really have to move on from this. Yes, we're mainly guessing. But there are good arguments/info/etc on different sides, including yours. We don't have "winners" and "losers" on this discussion. We mainly have opinions. The point about the cost of the...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"Does Disney see any benefit, monetary or otherwise, to releasing the original trilogy unaltered? I don't know." Yes, I guess this one of the main points in this discussion.

"(Sir Guinness) 'Never see it again'" The last time I saw the original trilogy was probably 7-10 years ago (I can't even remember). I've seen the prequel trilogy in their original theatrical run and never again after that. So there's that.

"But I'm not guessing."In the end, you're only guessing. Just like the rest of us.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"He made a good deal with Disney, he'll continue to make money off of these movies, and he doesn't have to do any heavy lifting." I haven't said that he doesn't make any money of these future movies etc. I'm sure money is something that is coming to his way - always. He's Lucas after all...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"Lucas absolutely has a say in what gets released as "Star Wars" product."Again, do you have any real proof about this statement? There are like zillion SW related movies planned/coming already at this stage. I would say that after $4 billion the floodgates are truly open.Lucas may have some...

Because the $4 billion deal, that's why.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"Disney don't care about the originals in any shape or form."Where do you base this comment? I mean sure, Disney bought the "IP" and the heart of the deal is in the future revenues, but of course the current films are important to them. Now I don't claim that they'll rush to get the unaltered...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"Of course, it is always possible that he wrote into the contract that only his most recently approved versions of the original movies can ever be released."Are you saying that after a $4 billion deal that could happen? Releasing unaltered SW trilogy "again" is mainly a business decision for...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"I prefer the redone versions."This wasn't actually what I asked, since I'm sure many people prefer the redone versions. My question was that are some people actually against releasing those unaltered version on BD? I know that my view on this issue is naive (so people tell me), but where's the harm?

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"fanboys gather around"I would say very selected fan boys. Obviously all fan edits are just that - edited by fans. It's sometimes interesting to see the results and who knows, maybe they even give some "ideas" to the studios. But that's it.

C'mon George, everybody has Holiday Special on the DVD-R already. Just release it!

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"(is there anything more they could pull from the archives??)"Probably a lot of deleted/alternate scenes, bloopers, etc, but not sure what they want to release. And as we know, the long, very good documentary "Empire of Dreams" wasn't included on the BD set.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"Fans' rights extend only to voting with their wallets as to whether they buy the existing special edition versions, or not."So are you saying that you don't want unaltered trilogy on BD, only that they "preserve it"?But what happens after you're gone. I mean can they release the "preserved...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Question to everybody: Are some people against the "unaltered" versions on Blu-ray? And if yes, why?
  26. Jari K

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"It's criminal infringement on the movie's copyright."Of course. But the point was that they really can't do much when people trade files and DVD-Rs and communicate via e-mails. Bootlegs and "fan projects" are kinda old thing now and often they're quite different from "piracy".It's of course a...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"Has any studio ever actually gone after the creator of a fan edit?"They don't really have to. Cease and desist e-mail from the studio lawyers is usually enough. Sure, the files and DVD-Rs are still out there but if they're not "online" studios pretty much calm down. If you advertise your fan...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"The big problem is that TVs now are insanely brighter..."Well, if you do a proper calibration, it's not going to be "insanely brighter". So no, it's not a problem.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"would suddenly be very annoyed to see the flashing white boxes..."Sorry, but I stopped reading already at this point. No idea what came next, but these "Iiik! Old effects on BD!" arguments are just nonsense. Most of us are movie fans and most of us respect the original work. Most of us also...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

"I think we can guarantee that no matter what Lucas or Disney do in this matter, there will always be people complaining about it."If they release the original, unaltered versions (on BD) it's pretty much a win-win situation for them:- True fans have to buy everything related to SW.- Fans of the...
