Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Sadly nobody will ever say they caught covid at a theater because with so few people showing up now, theaters will all be shut down sooner rather than later.

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Nobody knows anything for sure. But packing people into giant auditoriums hourly is needed for these movies to recoup their budgets. I really don't see that happening in 2021 or maybe even 2022. Money talks, don't think for a second that these "my film needs a theater!" directors won't cave if...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Well with a great swath of the public saying they're scared of a new vaccine when it hits, it will take possibly years to convince everyone to take it. At that point we may see people actually sitting next to each other in a theater.

If it sticks with theaters only, it could easily be 2023 or 2024 before we get anywhere near full packed theaters.

We're you only ones in the theater at order time or were lots of folks booking seats?

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Since this movie has phased out of theaters for the most part, and many screens have shuttered, the big question is how many movies will hold off for theaters to reopen versus going the streaming route, and will 2020/21 be the year theaters died?

Oh I realize online ordering is king, but with in person displays the temptation is higher to buy. Not many everyday shoppers will actively be searching online to buy a movie like this.

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

One hurdle any new release has in a pandemic environment is that so many folks have embraced staying at home and are streaming their entertainment day in and day out. You won't have as many people hopping off their sofas during flu/pandemic season to browse the limited disc aisles of their local...

True. How many new releases were there in 2020? One or two?

It has a good chance of being top 100 since 2020 had next to no theater releases. It will do well once it hits streaming is my prediction. I still don't see folks running out to grab a $20+ blind buy.

I doubt Tenant has enough widespread interest to pull in 400,000 discs at this stage. Too many will await streaming vs. spending $20 or even more for it.

I think they would be wise to follow the path of Mulan. Rent for $20-30 for set time, then roll out to "free" full stream on a stream platform. If anything produce very limited hard copies for the non stream crowd to avoid huge loss on non selling discs like days of past.

They just need to pull off the band aid and put Tenant onto a streaming service and call it done. It isn't a must see so disc sales, if they even go that route, would not be cost effective since so few people have shown enough interest in it and producing a disc in any format would just be more...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

So how do you make sure the theater gets paid? How do you handle possible traffic issues? Could a theaters parking lot be arranged do as not to impact other businesses? Personally I think it's too much of a logistics nightmare to pull off for a theater chain to handle. Nice idea on paper but...

Many theaters are in busy city centers and building outdoor theaters seem extremely impracticle. Not to mention a logistics nightmare.

Two co-workers recently went to DW and showed me pictures. The place looked abandoned. Not a soul around in many spots in the park. Both said they could visit places like the Star Wars areas and have it practically to themselves. They loved the trips.

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Are we seeing the new world of cinema right in front of us? In that we no longer need buildings to gather at to watch a movie, studios can now just load film to a streaming service and charge a set fee to watch once and months later make it available "free" on the same streaming service? It's...
