Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Yes he was considered. In fact the mythical Vulcan place Sha Ka Ree, referred to in the movie, was so named because it sounds like "Sean Connery". Sha Ka Ree - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki Star Trek V has brilliance at its heart. Goldsmith nailed it.

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

And yet the vast majority of my US BD discs contain - thankfully - original theatrical captions including ALL the Bond movies so far, the Bourne films, the Mummy films, LA Confidential, the Rambo movies. I know that in Region B this isn't the case.

Yes, like I said above, the subs on Trek II have not been changed.

They may be sharp and clear, but they're not the original font. Hence this is NOT what was shown in theatres. Thus this is NOT the theatrical version of this movie :-(

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

The James Bond blu-rays all contain their original theatrical subtitles - and so does Star Trek II - were these not first generation? And Star Trek III contains the "Genesis Planet" caption correctly apparently - so why not the rest? So the "first generation thing" doesn't work I'm afraid :-(

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Apparently they left the subs in Star Trek II alone - which is ironic since it's Trek II that was revamped. It's the subs in all the other movies they buggered up.

OMG so the US releases have player-generated subs too? The first time EVER that these movies don't include their original theatrical captions? Okay, that's the straw that broke the camel's back. I won't be buying this set. I'll still with my DVD special editions. Thanks for nothing, Paramount.

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

I'm really quite concerned about these ongoing audio issues. My season 1 box set is still in the mail from Amazon, and I'm still on the fence over the movie box set, but the official reviews all seem to praise the audio while other people have commented its way too quiet. I know, I know - just...

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Well I've cancelled my pre-order until I see some proper reviews. I'm seriously gutted because I reeeeally wanted the original versions of ST:TMP and ST VI on a digital format :-(

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Because there have been different versions of the DVDs in the past. For example, the UK version of IV has always included the prologue narrated by William Shatner. The US version never has. Also I *think* the UK editions have included player-generated captions in the past where the US...

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Enrico, are you in the USA and commenting on the US discs? If so, oh dear. Jeez, I thought we were through with this kind of thing. Although a "minor" thing to most people, this may very well be a deal breaker for me. I find player-generated subs take me OUT of the movie, and the changing of...

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Except that player generated subtitles are not what was intended by the director, nor what was shown in cinemas, and are therefore totally unacceptable on a home video release.

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Paul, I just realised you're in the UK... fingers crossed the US versions contain ONLY original theatrical captions for everything including the Klingon language sequences. I believe previous DVD editions had player-generated captions whereas the US counterparts were done properly. Fingers...

Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

You are f****** kidding me? So let me get this straight, Paramount makes a special point of releasing the theatrical versions and then replaces the theatrical subtitles? How do the new ones look compared to the old ones? The same fonts? Particularly Star Trek III - the captions indicating...
