Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I’d doubt it since it didn’t sell well when another company released the first half a few years ago. The second half was never released as far as I know (although I’d buy it).

Did you notice the comment in the tvobscurities review that 50’s sitcoms were rarely funny? I stopped reading at that point.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I love the A&C show and have the various dvd releases. It’s been running on the DECADES digital TV network for a couple years (it’s a sub channel available in most areas on one of the over the air channels). I find the show even funnier the more times I’ve seen it. Love their movies best of course.

Those are all kinescopes. Not much could be done.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Ben Casey, My 3 Sons and Our Miss Brooks were all part of the MOD program which is now in limbo. Bonanza and Gunsmoke were not and should be continued via Paramount at some point soon. Hopefully the MOD titles will find a home.

Regarding CBS-MOD, according to a source at the company, Paramount will take over marketing as well as distribution of all CBS properties eliminating CBS Home Entertainment. The MOD program is up in the air as to its ultimate fate.

The first season episodes that run on MeTV also have the teaser after the opening credits.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

As I got thru the rest of season 1, volume 1, I'm finding more episodes that are a little shorter than on the first disc -- around 22:30 give or take. All of the episodes appear to be edited the same way all of the network daytime episode reruns were edited back in the day (notably "I Love Lucy"...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Miss Brooks has arrived and yes she’s cut but looks terrific. Based on the first disc the shows each run between approximately 23:15 and 23:22 No signs of any speed up.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Because different editors work on different episodes preparing them for the dvd. I’ve found that on other releases too. On the “Sam Benedict” dvd set for example some episodes included the bumpers in and out of the breaks while most did not.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Color me confused. I remember Wire Service vividly. It was a one hour show. In fact I have 16mm prints of a couple of episodes. So if Deadline is the same show were the episodes cut down? The two series are listed separately in IMDb. Can someone unconfuse me? (I did order Deadline FYI).

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Ben Casey volume 1 disc 3 Episode 9 - 47:33 (only cut episode so far—looks like something was cut at the start of chapter 4 since it’s an abrupt cut from black—also has the old open) Episode 10 - 50:34 Episode 11 - 50:33 Episode 12 - 50:16

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My understanding is that “Our Miss Brooks” was transferred around 2015 for a DVD release deal with Shout Factory. That deal fell through and a broadcast deal was made with MeTV. The transfers I saw looked very good on Me.

Ben Casey episode timings Volume 1 Disc 2 Episode 5: 50:28 Episode 6: 50:01 Episode 7: 50:26 Episode 8: 50:05 Episode 5 was obviously sourced differently than the other ones so far. It’s much sharper and cleaner with a rock solid image and crisp audio. Episode 8 introduces a new program open...

Just watched episode one and two of Ben Casey. What a great series just as good as ever. Episode 1: Looks very good overall. Slightly jumpy at times. I’ll assume these are the old transfers but complete. Definitely not timesped. Audio good but a little muffled or swimmy at times. Bumper into...

My Ben Casey DVD’s were due to arrive today from Amazon but an email this morning says they’ve encountered a delay in shipping! I checked Deep Discount and the Ben Casey DVD’s are marked backordered (and priced slightly higher than Amazon). Hoping the delay is quickly resolved. EDIT: Just got...

The episodes showing the cigarette packs are the original network versions. That music is “On the Trail” from the Grand Canyon Suite. That music was used by Philip Morris in the 50s in “I Love Lucy” as well. The credits on the plain background are from the syndication version of the program...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Happy to oblige. It’s “Scene of the Crime” which is the first episode of season 2 featuring a major unbilled cameo at the end. I also happen to have a film print of this episode. Picture quality on the bluray is a little disappointing especially considering how gorgeous the movie itself looks...
