I am actually doing the same. I do not have a problem with first season episodes as those were the most "Star Trek" to me, seeming to expand the Utopian concept, which is the hope of Star Trek (we should be so lucky). What was dropped in later seasons that could have been expanded story...
1. TOS
2. TNG
and distant
3. Second Season Discovery
Voyager was okay at the time I guess... too many resets.
Enterprise got interesting too late.
DS9 is simply a soap opera in the Star Trek universe. Some fun episodes and interesting characters but diminished the utopia that was supposed...
Just a note here that Vulcan has been found. Now we await first contact.

I have had all the episodes on tape (Beta) since the mid 80's, then laserdiscs, then DVD, then Blu-Ray. I watch the Blu-rays with updated effects all the time. I do not experience the same problem as others when watching TOS-R. I guess I am a generalist as well.
I enjoyed Voyager for the most part on its first run but I always found the doctor to be the weakest point of the show and his evolution as a holographic doctor ridiculous. It just made no sense and to me was a feeble attempt to inject a "logical" character, ala' Spock and Data. The pilot...
It is interesting to note the fundamental difference between ST:OS and ST:NG is the former questioned man's connection with technology while the latter embraced it.
The presenting of a utopia contrasted with society not so (one that relates mostly to us) is a staple of science fiction in...
Perhaps, but in this case, we know they will ALL come out of it okay. As a viewer and Trek fan, I would have found far more interesting to see a clever weaving of the movie into existing canon. And these are NOT the characters we know and love in the least. Kirk, Spock and Scotty are not the...
One man's inspiration is another man's laziness. Should have started the story with Kirk being on the Farrugut, and worked from there. After all, if you can't fit the story within 78 episodes of vague references, then the writers might fare better at flipping burgers for a living.
As for the...
I'm watching DS9 and am toward the end of season 3. The first two were painful to get through as I never cared for the premise (I departed after the first season when it aired) but the characters are good and the stories are getting more interesting as I get to know the characters better. I...
Dude, when it comes to Trek, it seems you and I are toe to toe. I did the exact same thing last night. :)
I'm sure Scott would have appreciated you and Lou's toast.
Several years ago, I ran into Margaret Bonanno and Ann Crispin (RIP) at a trek convention (in the hotel bar). This is when Margaret wrote The Probe. Both were disenchanted with the novel process, and Margaret said she would not write another, especially since they apparently butchered her...
Well I know one but will not say it until I figure out the other one. I assume then that it is two separate characters and not one being referenced in another episode.
