I've got to get back in and snag some Popeye and Woody. I have all of them already, but those are so great that I like to buy them for kids I know.....and also as backup for myself!!! I try my best to share the greatness of animation past. The new animation just doesn't hold a candle.
I picked up a few goodies last night:
Fear Strikes Out (Anthony Perkins)
Bang the Drum Slowly (Robert DeNiro)
I Heart Huckabees
Fly Away Home ($5)
A New Kind of Love (Newman/Woodward)
Pretty decent for $18 and change.
Lou,
I'm on the lookout, but I've been to 2 stores in the past 2 days and no more copies of the Poitier set. I'm going to try and hit 2 more before the weekend, so I'll let you know if I find anything.
Lou,
I managed to find a "Homefront Collection", but I'd still be happy to pick up a Poitier for you....and I can either hold it for a future trade, or I can send it off to you and you can pay me for postage. I'll try to make time to swing by tonight.
Made a second stop last night. I looked through two giant displays and was leaving the store disappointed (for the second time in the same day)....and as I turned the corner by the checkout, I almost tripped over another display of movies!! BINGO - I got everything above except for the...
I stopped at the store closest to my work, but they only had a smattering of dual and triple features, but nothing I needed. No sign of the Poitier, Universal Westerns, or Homefront collection. /img/vbsmilies/htf/thumbsdown.gif
I'm going to try some more of the next few nights.
Howie,
Thanks for the tip on "Get Shorty". That would have been a huge bummer for me, because I don't really like the movie. I've seen it twice and didn't like it either time....but I'm determined to try a third time. That said, I checked my copy last night and it has the correct discs.
I actually haven't seen the film since it originally came out on VHS. I remember really liking it.....and the Halloween mask scene is still stuck in my mind......and I normally can't stand Kevin Costner....but I can't wait to watch this again. I almost passed on this, thinking that I would...
I got a pretty good haul late last week.
The Right Stuff (Original 1 disc version, but in a Keep Case)
A Perfect World (Underrated Eastwood directorial film)
The Outrage (Paul Newman Collection and directed by Martin Ritt)
A Mighty Heart
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
King of Kings...
I've never watched any of those AMC packs, but from what I've seen they consist of Public Domain movies, so I wouldn't expect much. They essentially tired to make PD stuff look more legitimate by plastering the AMC logo on them.
I thought the same thing when I picked it up. Who greenlighted this? It comes with a CD with 4 pop songs from the late 80s on top of it.

I enjoyed the movie, but probably not enough to watch the entire thing from beginning to end again. Hence my desire to just rewatch certain bits! /img/vbsmilies/htf/blush.gif
Thanks!
I almost picked up "Black Snake Moan".....just to watch Christina Ricci run around in her panties again!!!
MMMMMMMMM! Maybe I'll still go back and grab it.
I had a pretty good haul yesterday. I might have to stop by a few more Big Lots again.
Bad News Bears (Both Sequels), they also had the original, but I've had that for some time.Days of Heaven (Original Paramount Release)Death WishClueless "Whatever Edition"Donovan's Reef (John Ford)It's All...
I just got some more good stuff.
Adam 12 - Season 1 - $8
3 Stooges - WB Double Feature w/ Gold Raiders - $3
Love Me Tender - Cinema Classics Collection - $3
Mad Max - $3
House on Haunted Hill - 1959 & 1999 versions - $3
The Man with Two Brains & My Blue Heaven double feature - $3
Shaft - 3...
I managed to make it to two Big Lots on my vacation. The second one had absolutely nothing, but the same old movies however the first had some interesting stuff.
I picked up several sets of each:
Top Cat (Complete Series)
Josie & the Pussycats (Complete Series)
Scooby-Doo Movies
Sure!
I'll take your list with me and pick up whatever I find.
I'm looking for:
Tales from the Crypt Season 6-7
Flintstones Season 4 through end
Pinky & The Brain - Volume 2 & 3
Wacky Races
Popeye 1&2
I would love to have a Wacky Races. If there are any particular titles you're looking for, let me know and maybe we can work out a trade sometime in the near future.
I was in the heart of Big Lots country last night. At one point, I looked at my GPS and I had 4 Big Lots within 10 miles of my location and 3 within 5. It took me 3 hours to cover 3 of them though and the fourth was the farthest from home, so I called it a night.
Overall, I didn't find...
I only stop in about once a month, but I have definitely seen new stock at 2 of the 3 stores while the 3rd rarely has much new.
With the deals that they have now, I'm going to try and make the rounds much more frequently.
There are about 6 Big Lots in the greater Chicagoland area, and I've hit 3 of them multiple times. I'm going to try 2 different stores tonight after work.
I got some phenomonal buys at my local Big Lots over the weekend.
The Flintstones (Season 1-3) for $3 each (I was blown away)
The Best of the Scooby Doo Movies for $6
A plethora of $3 films (I've probably acquired at least 100 discs in the last year)
.......and drumrolll please
Roots...
