Which is exactly what is wrong with the bloody Oscars. It is "Best Visual Effects" not "Best Visual Effects in the Service of Making Something Look Realistic". The same goes for "Best Picture". It should be "Best Picture" not "Best Picture because it is live Action and an Actor's Film".
It still didn't deserve to win that category. Visually it looked like any other war movie. There is nothing visually outstanding in it. Giving a film a VFX award for successfully making it look mundane and typical of any other war film. Outstanding. :rolleyes:
1917 did not deserve to win Visual Effects. Nothing was particularly striking visually in 1917. It was your typical war movie visuals. Making the film look like one take is not a visual effect. It is an editing trick.

Parasite? Wow, that is surprising. I was half musing that it might win but I didn't think a foreign film would ever be picked for Best Picture. I was sure it would go to OUATIH because of its Hollywood connections.
I haven't seen a lot of these so I'm only going to guess at the some of the main ones and the only one I'm ever interested in.
