I've noticed regular Amazon orders are flying out the door now (not a reference to their drone program  ). The Christmas rush is over, no excuse for hold ups!
No doubt. I retired 3 years ago at age 50 (could've stayed longer, but was burned out and ready to go!), and I used to make a fortune in overtime, so I miss that, but freedom is still better :) . I've still saved enough for my sound upgrade, so I'll probably order that stuff soon (it's all pro...
I am on hold due to native 4K laser projectors. I want to consider this option. My screen will be 110", due to my need to have behind screen access. Also, I am on hold with OPPO for the player. Your contact with them said they are not releasing a UHD player until next year, so I think I will...
Don, I don't know about projectors, but the UHD TV's pixels disappear compared side by side with a 1080 set. A glaring difference. That alone would be enough for me to upgrade on the TV side. Projecting may not have that big difference.
I've read about problems with LG also, and I wouldn't buy any of their current BD players. I wanted to slip in that at one time they did get it right with the BD-390 IMO. I know OPPO is not jumping on the UHD rollout; I remember reading they will have a UHD player possibly sometime in 2016. I...
I have an LG 390 Blu-ray player, which got good reviews when I bought it about 6 years ago. It has great PQ and no issues. I still use it in family room. I don't think they kept up the quality since, but some of their TVs are getting good reviews. They are making some affordable OLEDs. The OPPO...
What about players!? :)
I heard a couple months ago you'll be able to get one for $400, and that was a "higher end" machine, with some lesser models selling for $250 initially.
Dave, my maximum screen width will be 108" fixed screen ( to allow for reasonable behind screen access). I'm expecting to pay about 3 grand for the screen (maybe more), but I'm still doing research. The one Sam mentioned, Screen Reasearch, I have read about in other forums, but haven't gotten a...
Dave, I also like the idea of opening up to 2.76:1 while maintaining height. It will require some sort of masking, but I too am still figuring all this out. I would probably go with the woven for an AT screen, but save for a high quality one.
I like plan 3 (the most expensive of course). I am still on the fence about switching to native 4K. I really would like to give it the time to see if it will make it. There is the possibility that 1080p could remain the dominant format for a while. If that looks like the case, I would probably...
They would add over 2 grand to my already expanding upgrade list. I am also in the process of upgrading to screen and projector - though I am waiting to see what 4K projectors become available, especially laser. I am going for an all pro setup (including amps), and the 3677s fit my present...
I'm with you, but you'd probably blowout your back wall with the JBL PRO setup. :)
I'm looking at these, which are more suited to my room - JBL PRO 3677 Screen Channel System
They're under $900 each.
It's a strange phenomenon, having spent many years in movie theaters, to see films again many years later looking "better" than I remember. I've even bought Blu-rays of recent films that I enjoyed the look of more compared to the recent theatrical viewing. It's still video when you are watching...
Too bad. I've never owned a direct drive turntable, but it's probably pretty deep in there, and may be due to oxidation, so it can be cleaned. The pitch controls can usually be fixed (at least temporarily) by turning them side to side for about 30 seconds. I've had this problem with my belt...
I didn't see an 11.1 channel Atmos AVR from Marantz at the site. They have this - (http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=avseparates&ProductId=AV7702 - if you have the amplification. It also has 12 XLR outputs, but is the same price as the AVR. It does have 13.2...
I mentioned the Denon Pro to show there are alternatives out there for cheaper, but that model is not what you want for 4K. I'm not even sure if there is a true native 4K reciever out there now, after reading the threads at AVS Forum about fully compliant HDMI 2.0 & HDCP 2.2 (there are several...
If you are interested in combining consumer with pro electronics, look for something like the Denon Pro DN-500AV with a +4dBu/-10dBV switch - this will help with setting the correct gain. They may be adding an Atmos capable product to this line, I would think. It's a bit cheaper than a...
I hear you. I'm redoing my room also, but I'm going with all pro cinema gear - it's much cheaper! The Crown XLC2500 amps are under $400 apiece. The JBL Pro screen channels I'm getting are about $870 apiece. Even the the nicely laid out Denon Pro controller is under a grand. Have you looked into...
