Huh, I had no idea John Forsythe did comedy as well. I wonder if any rival networks put out a "Single Mother" show.

I think I'm going to have to get these sets. Based on a couple episodes it does seem much funnier than most of its contemporary sitcoms, and the NYC location shooting is the cherry on top. Has anyone seen the Car 54 movie? I've heard it was a total trainwreck. Speaking of Dort Clark, he was...

Great 70s riff on the Route 66 formula. It's a little saccharine in an afterschool special way at times, but I love the location shooting (now in COLOR) in multiple states across the U.S. Definitely a laidback show (don't look for action or suspense here), but it's nice to just kick back and...

Holy eyeopeners! Season 3 Episode 17 actually has a location shoot that runs a few minutes. The first few seasons are almost all in studio - did they venture outside more in later seasons to keep up with competitors like Highway Patrol?

Isn't this right around the time Belinda Montgomery broke up with Sonny Crockett? I didn't know she went into witness protection.

Holy cow, that's one slim and young looking Tom Poston there! Growing up, I always thought of him as a background sitcom character.

I've seen a couple episodes on Youtube, yes. Although clearly I did not make it to the divorce episode. Let's just say it's no Columbo. More like a bland local paper version of Lou Grant.

There's something deeply unnerving about Ben Gazzara with hair. Also, I didn't realize Mrs. Columbo got a divorce! What happened there? Was it the cigar smoke? The long hours? The "just one more thing"? Inquiring minds want to know. This should have been a special episode of Columbo where...

A million thanks for all the Naked City links. And now Police Woman. Another great show, even though Angie is a little on the wooden side. Also, I wonder if it is a sign of watching too much vintage TV that I got excited to see a screencap of Whit Bissell in Lock Up above.;)

It's strange - the guest stars on Dan August are often amazing. but the regular cast members act half asleep. Reynolds is very disengaged - no charisma to speak of here. Overall it's a decent show with nice production values, just a little bland. You should post the Star Wars episode if that is...

Thanks for all the amazing uploads. I've not had the chance to watch many yet, but will try to catch up. What channel do you speak of? Sounds interesting.

The pilot "Portrait of a Dead Girl" is pretty good. Some great location shooting in New York City, especially a thrilling showdown in Central Park at Christmastime which is very well shot. Also some interesting story twists, although it is easy to guess the villain once that person appears...

I only recently became acquainted with Diana Muldaur through the McCloud pilot. That character was a little dull, but didn't bother me. Are you saying she's a killjoy?

Police Story is one of my favorites from the 70s. Great guest stars and usually great location work, with a somewhat grittier feel than most other crime shows of the time. Wish a complete box set was available, especially on blu ray. The spin-off Police Woman is also pretty good. It's not the...

Thanks for the upload. I have tried, but find it really difficult to get into Charlie's Angels. I know of course it has many fans, and the Angels are certainly attractive (although the very 70s hairstyles and wardrobes are a bit of a handicap), but the show just doesn't really deliver for me...

I heard somewhere that while they were married Majors and Fawcett required in contracts that their work days end by 6 PM or not include weekends or something like that so as not to interfere with their home life.

You've got my attention now. I'll have to give it a try. Strange how Fawcett's runs on this and Charlie's Angels were so short. Maybe she was difficult to work with? Or Majors was interfering with her work? Or maybe once her posters started selling she didn't really need the TV work anymore.

I always get Harry O confused with O'Hara, U.S. Treasury, which I found extremely dull. In the only episode I've seen of the latter, O'Hara busts up a backwoods moonshine operation run by the Skipper (!), and the entire cast seems to be sleepwalking through their roles. I take it Harry O is...

With so much vintage TV sitting in a vault somewhere gathering dust, I cannot understand why these networks relentlessly repeat reruns of the same shows over and over. Even if I liked those shows (most are junk sitcoms), I wouldn't bother to sit for more than one or two episodes. It's such lazy...

That's a good point. These days so many shows seem to take pains to try to remind the viewer of real life's worries. That's fine once in while, but a little goes a long way. And though I might watch and enjoy such shows once, I would never want to rewatch them. More new escapist TV series with...

Wow, you just had a great show idea there! Matlock Police! With Chief Matlock, and officers Fletcher, Jones, Sloan, Quincy, Dowling, and McCall! After intense cases, instead of heading to the bar to get trashed, they'd head to Denny's for breakfast. Man, what could have been... My main TV...

I think it may have been mostly #3. Gunsmoke became a huge hit in 1956, and was #1 in the ratings for the next few seasons. I guess all the network execs wanted to find the next Gunsmoke. Also, starting in the late 50s the networks focused a lot on so-called "rural programs" like The Real...

Obscure Classic TV Shows - Post Your Favorites!

Yep. What I would like to know is why TV was so thoroughly dominated by westerns from the late 50s to mid 60s. When action dramas began on TV there were only a few westerns, outnumbered by detective/crime shows like Dragnet. But then westerns exploded in about 1957 and completely took over the...
