His Girl Friday would be a release day purchase for me too. And I'd be ecstatic if they end up releasing Holiday. One of my all time favorites and a film a lot of (non-HTF) people aren't familiar with.
So true. While my love of cinema began, of course, with mainstream Hollywood fair, it has grown to include cinema from outside the borders of the USA. I have close to 100 discs that I have to watch with subtitles on and have seen many, many more.
Sullivan's Travels is a day one purchase for me. I'll probably pick up Odd Man Out and Friends of Eddie Coyle on sale. I'm not sure I need to own The River. It's not one of my favorites of Renoir's.
I may be waiting until the next Barnes & Noble sale, but I'll be picking up everything from October except The Vanishing. I think it's a very good movie. I'm just not sure I'll ever want to watch it again.
No complaints here either-- more great movies in HD please. I held off on buying the first DVD incarnation of Seven Samurai so I guess i'm getting off easy. :-)
Yeah, at first glance I was excited about the upgrade program, but as I read how it actually worked the excitement quickly faded. It doesn't seem like much of a deal or upgrade pricing (yet, I tend to understand why they chose that price point). I think I will either just buy the Blu editions...
That's too bad, but the wait won't kill me and the way this fall is stacking up with discs I want to purchase I may need the time to come up with a money-making scheme.
