    Airtags buyers and owners thread

We bought a pack before our European vacation this spring. I view them like insurance: they’re completely useless until they’re useful. And the price is low enough that I can gamble on them in case they do help make a lousy situation a bit easier on our travels. But so far, they’ve not actually...

Keep in mind AirTags need to be near other iOS devices to relay location. So if your dogs run away in the city, probably helpful. If they get lost in the woods, possibly useless.

That's a new renewal rate. Initial enrollment is still $85. https://www.tsa.gov/news/press/releases/2021/09/30/tsa-precheckr-online-renewal-fee-will-decrease-70 It requires an in-person appointment, so act tomorrow (Monday) if you hope to get it done this week.

It's a great thing. It's less than $100 per five years. If you travel even a couple times a year, I think it's the best money spent on travel. If you only fly once every five years, then not worth the bother. If you do international trips at all, then spend the extra $20 to get global entry...

I’ve had no problems with bags getting lost this year. But given the overall reports of air travel and baggage handling problems, adding an AirTag to the mix isn’t a bad idea.

As a board-gaming enthusiast with a wife who keeps buying game organizers and piece replacements, I’ve become quite aware of the Etsy-realm 3D printer innovations! :D

Reading that AirTags can’t be shared even within a “family”. I see the privacy concerns. I assume Apple is trying to figure this out for future ios updates. But this is a bummer. I would want my wife to be able to track my luggage and vice versa.

Thanks for the offer, but it’s not pressing. :) I was going to impulse buy the new gadget having a marginal excuse. But I don’t worry about lost luggage on a cross-country, non-stop trip. I’ll probably buy some next month before a trip to see family. They’ll probably be in stock then.

I was looking at the 4-pack. I ”need” two. So might as well buy four to get the pack discount.

Unexpected trip coming up in a couple weeks. Was going to impulse buy AirTags. But they’re not shipping until mid June, so no go.

I don’t buy add-on insurance. But $100 for risk reduction that covers dozens or hundreds of flights over several years? Sure, I’ll risk $100 on that.

I'd buy the $100 pack if I were traveling. Insurance. My wife has stated we will buy such things for next major vacation, at the latest. But in terms of my daily life, no benefit to me; doubly in pandemic times.

Interested in what the real value of these will be, five years from now. They aren't going to be products that actively "delight" people. Ideally, they're tossed into a bag or clipped to keys, and never used again. I view them as a $100 insurance policy that will never be used. There's been...

That’s a blunt force, all-or-nothing option. Doesn’t provide any of the nuance ultimately needed for managing this stuff adequately. We’re in the beginning step of “allow all alarms or mute phone completely”. Have to get to sophisticated, context-based muting of alarms while allowing emergency...

Curious if I can leave one in my car to make it easier to find in parking lots and parking garage. Current system works automatically with Bluetooth, so gets close but could be better with UWB. Wonder if can be used for “where the heck are my friends / family in this theme park?”

If these work and they’re successful as a search device...they’re going to go through substantial privacy and implementation revisions. People are already very worried about how these can be used by abusive people in abusive relationships. Apple has clearly put some thought into this. But it’s...

    1) If the air tag is close to the phone, like 30’ probably, the phone will detect it directly and point you to it. So if you lose your dog between the couch cushions, then yes you can find your dog 2) the air tags talk to each other and then to other iPhones and then to the cloud and then to...

But if you don’t want the disc specifically on a keychain, an integrated hole or extending loop is unwanted. And even if it had a hole or loop, it could well be the wrong size. A bunch of keychains are really thick. If I get them, they’re for luggage, not keys. Don’t need anything extraneous...
