I’ll point out that the system in the 2024 Navigator is an update to use Apple CarPlay from 2019. This isn’t the new 2022-announced next gen CarPlay that’s debuting in 2024 that takes over everything down to the instrument gauges. That’s only appearing to start only in very high end cars. Who...
I travel and so rent cars about monthly. CarPlay becoming standard is the best thing to happen for travelers. No matter the car, my navigation and audio-controls interface aer always the same.
I only wish I had CarPlay in my own car. :)
I bought this for my car.
Magnetic Wireless Car Charger Compatible with iPhone 13/13 Pro/13 Pro Max/13 Mini/12/12 Pro/12 Pro Max/12 Mini, APMIEK Fast Charging Air Vent Holder Charger Compatible with MagSafe Case
Increasingly, cars are coming with wireless CarPlay and a wireless Qi charging pad. Car connects to iPhone and CarPlay starts automatically and you can have your phone charging on the pad if that’s desired. When it works, it’s great.
(I rent a dozen or more cars a year and when I get this...
I only have guesses about Telsla:
Design difficulties about how to carve off a portion of a 17” screen for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto
Licensing of those requires full screen
Tesla doesn’t want to cede control of any of their UX to Apple or Google
Arrogance :)
And legit, I'd seriously consider buying a Tesla except they don't have Apple CarPlay. I'm now watching for the recently announced Mustang CUV which looks to be a good electric car *and* will support Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Great preview of CarPlay in iOS 13

It was tough car shopping in 2016. CarPlay was just appearing in some midsize sedans. But I test drove the Honda Accord, which I was replacing, and the CarPlay was really buggy I drove a couple different cars and it was erratic in its performance. Even setting aside the design problems with the...
That’s a standard iOS feature that doesn’t require CarPlay. It works over Bluetooth or headphones or the iPhone’s speaker. :)
What’s really great is recently some apps like Overcast are doing a jump-back by a few seconds after a pause. That way they’re no longer stopping and resuming mid...
Most likely. But it doesn’t matter, because the end result is the same no matter who’s at fault: Apple CarPlay is bit flakey based on my usage through a few dozen different cars over the past couple years.
But I’d really like to have CarPlay. Despite its occasional problems, it’s so much...
I love CarPlay, but it’s still flakey. I travel and drive rentals one to three weeks a month. I’m getting CarPlay more often, but it’s not quite a given. Probably half the cars there’s some difficulty getting CarPlay to see my iPhone and connect and run. A recent rental it kept crashing and...
Wireless CarPlay was announced sometime in 2016. BMW was the first to offer it. But adoption in general has been very slow. I’ve not seen it yet.
