I found the fix! I have to reboot my AppleTV serving as the primary home hub! Why does HomeKit randomly break every couple months? Who knows. Why did it randomly start working again? Probably a tvOS forced a aTV reboot. My automations bonked out again this week. One night they worked. the next...

Yep. Had all that and more using CarPlay in various rentals the past couple years. Glad to hear it might be more solid in 13.4. Of course, I'm not traveling, so it's moot. And I can't yet justifying a new car just for CarPlay. :)

I’ve experienced that with CarPlay (in rentals; don’t have it in my daily driver). Had to pull over, turn off and turn and car to get Nav to come out of a locked / frozen state. In short, I like CarPlay a lot, but have found it pretty buggy.

I rebooted a second or third time, and it’s been working much more normally. Maybe, hopefully, a random quirk?

Are there any reports / rumblings of memory management problems with iOS 13.4? My iPad (2018) has been having terrible problems when switching from app to app. Reloads frequently, UI freezes for 5-10 sec and sometimes just crashes. It’s worse than the memory management problems when iOS 13...

Which is completely useless to the great majority who use their iPad as a touchscreen tablet. It doesn't fix the underlying problems, which is a UI made worse from iOS 12. It points to Apple's fundamental weakness that's emerged in recent years: they bolt on new features but don't fix existing...

I guess you're saying you like iOS 13 text editing? So, that's cool. Personally, I don't get it. On the whole, it's a regression for me, making things worse. Kind see the cursor. The snatch and splop gestures are too hard and too inconsistent in performance on the iPad, and impossible on the...

So...it's working again? I'm so confused by Siri. The nut of it: Up until last month, I said "Hey Siri, turn on Sound Machine". And it came on and ran the automation sequence. That stopped working for no apparent reason. Now I have to say, "Hey Siri, Turn on Bedroom Sound Machine". And now...

I don't understand. Text selection remains a mess in iOS 13. Or is -13- different from 13? How do I get iOS dash13dash?

    iOS 13

Does anyone understand Siri and HomeKit in iOS 13, or point me to good resources? Siri / HomeKit just broke for me about a month ago. An automation I have just stopped working. All the individual pieces worked if triggered manually. The automation works if tested manually. But using Siri to call...

A re-read of this detailed explanation of iPad os 13 text editing UI is super helpful. The OS features aren’t consistent or universal, which is weirdly bad design for Apple. But getting reminded of the undo/redo triple tap stuff is handy...

“iOS 13 Text Selection — Benjamin Mayo” https://bzamayo.com/ios13-text-selection I’m increasingly perplexed by text selection in iOS 13. That video essay gets at part of it. Notably, the multi-tap features don’t seem to work anywhere except Apple apps. “Triple tap any word within a sentence...

Not specifically iOS 13, but close enough. Interesting set of 2019 “best of’s”. Skewed by the audience for this particular podcast. Any other round ups? “Upgradies Hall of Fame” https://upgradies.com/year/2019

How many times does iOS 13 ask reconfirmation about location usage by a weather app? I've gotten this notification for DarkSky about 20 times so far since upgrading from iOS 12.

I still have recurring problems with Safari. I get the little header "This page was having problems and had to be reloaded" several times a day. Memory management also seems worse. It seems like Safari reloads more often after switching to another app and back. But that might be due to apps...

Yes. iOS 13 Safari on the iPad is terrible. Big regression in stability and performance from iOS 12.

And I'm saying that to contrast with a friend and her iPhone X bought two years. She had all kinds of problems. Really crashy and bad photos and she hated it. But the problems she had, the stuff she described, I didn't see anyone else anywhere, no journalists, no bloggers, no podcasters, no...

Except...this most likely isn't hardware / software breakage. It's iOS 13. iOS 13 has been arguably Apple's worst, buggiest launches by numerous accounts. And I've experienced a variety of the problems reported and talked about. There are known problems with Mail. With features removed and...

F*cking Apple! They removed the wifi sync button from iOS 13! This is a real step backwards; I'm back to manual syncing with cable to iMac since there's no user-activated iPhone wireless synch option anymore...

And updated. It's better now. Maybe it was a reboot. Though iOS 13 memory management still seems more aggressive overall, with apps having to relaunch and reload more often than before. Maybe it's just iOS 13 footprint affecting my 6th gen iPad. So, it's usable again. I'd told my wife that iOS...

I thought that iOS 13.2.2 fixed things up for me. But I'm seeing that my iPad is still afflicted, maybe even moreso than before that update, with the memory management bug. iOS 13 has been quite a mess of a an annual upgrade. Apple needs to stop pushing x.0 annual updates out to normal users...

After a little more reading about 13.2 bugs, I decided to risk the upgrade. Thankfully, it fixed my Keychain problem on both iPhone and iPad and home automation stuff is again usable! (whew!) Haven't had enough time to tell if I'm afflicted by the overly aggressive background killing that's...
