I upgraded both my AppleTV's and haven't noticed any changes or problems that would cause the lamentations. I haven't read anything on this update so it must be with features I never used. I mostly live inside the aTV app itself and it looks the same to me.
I haven’t subscribed to Netflix 4K to try Atmos previously. I’ll be renewing for ST next week and will definitely pay for Atmos this time. Hopefully no problems.
That was way harder and more complex than it should have been. Definitely not the aTV’s fault. But it needed cables and deep-menu settings on two devices and multiple tests and unintuitive settings on the aTV.
But, is working. So next opportunity I can try out some DV content from my HTPC and...
Also:
4K SDR with Match Content and 4:4:4 Chroma
4K HDR and the screen brightness is boosted
4K Dolby Vision and the screen brightness is boosted (maybe more) and match content is disabled.
It appears the right format for all-purpose is 4K SDR with Match Content (Range & Frame Rate). But you...
And now it’s working. I was checking the Sony TV settings — HDMI has to be set for Enhanced as well. It was, but I turned on Enhanced for all inputs, and now it works.
I don’t know how/why but I have access to all the things.
I can‘t get Dolby Vision to work on my appletv. I’ve got brand new 8K mono price hdmi cables connectin 4K appletv to Denon 760 to Sony 950H. I‘m going into one of the Denon 8K ports (a late discovery). But it won’t enable.
I’m at a loss. I don’t care much but I’ve now spent an extra $30 on...
Pretty sure all AV limitations of Apple TV are self inflicted. The hardware is super capable. It could be the ultimate box to meet the dreams of all mainstream and niche enthusiasts.
But Apple doesn’t care.
So I own both an Nvidia Shield for HTPC use, and AppleTV for subscription streaming.
I looked at the three pack. But I just need the one…
well, maybe I goofed. I might need two. I don’t need to replace all cables. I only have one true 4k sequence currently: This one AppleTV to Denon 760 to Sony 950H. Everything else is still HD in some manner. But in think I forgot I need a 4K...
Short answer, no.
Long answer, some UST projectors with integrated screens are licensing DV. And there are also arcane tech tricks one can play to get DV data to a projector that some enthusiasts say works great.
Everytime because no one can find it lost in this thread’s conversation a year ago. :)
Should probably be a sticky with first post edited to hold the key info.
Thanks. DV isn’t important for me — living room TV — but I want to try out DV to know what I’m missing in the HD projector room. :)
It will also let me see if my HTPC supports HDR and DV.
Ok. I turned on match frame rate and dynamic range.
Anyone ever figure out why you don’t turn on DV to get DV? This makes no sense and counter-intuitive. I was turning it on, stopped only by ancient cable.
4K aTV on 4K TV. Now I have to find the magic settings to make it do HDR and DV without screwing up everything else. Also maybe a new cable because it won’t let me turn on DV.
I haven’t read that anywhere, though I’ve not been up on tech news this week and could have missed it. And I don’t have Netflix currently so can’t check directly.
Would be nice.
