Here is a short video of the extended Arbogast shot with the English mono track from the Turbine release. It was shot with my phone from the TV but it's clear enough to tell it's not the same as the new release. There are stabbing sounds though they may be hard to hear on this recording...
The longer soundtrack has always existed on the German prints and that is preserved on the German blu-ray release. None of the extra shots have dialogue. So not difficult to do, especially if they we able to extend those moments in the remixed version.
I have the German blu-ray set and the few seconds are striking enough to make an impression if you know the movie well because they are shocking moments. But watching the movie without the original mix is going to be far too distracting if you are a big fan of the film to make it worthwhile IMO...
Sounds like they remixed the remix and made additional changes but didn't restore the original effects. Hopefully Universal will offer a corrected disc.
The stereo remix added/changed and removed a number of sound effects, no matter what they said on the disc. There is a lot of new foley that doesn't fit in well and the music balance isn't correct. Hitchcock was very deliberate in the sound for Psycho. For instance, the sound of the shower is a...
