While TMP is either my favorite or second favorite Trek film, I think because it was the first Trek movie is why it generated such high ticket sales. It wasn't because of high acclaim; hence, one main reason we saw how/why Paramount went into such a different direction with Wrath of Khan.

My older brother said the exact same thing...as he saw the film in 1979. He made the point of how it was almost surreal when the Enterprise was once revealed and that slow motion circular view of it.
I seem to recall Nicholas Meyer discussing the 4K HDR scan that was done for Khan back around 2016 - from which a newly remastered standalone BD was released (improved from the 2009 boxset version). My guess is they would utilize this for the UHD BD.
Agreed. I also find TMP is to have contrast boosting applied (limiting shadow detail yet boosting whites too much) and there is still some noticeable DNR applied but nowhere near as bad as the rest of the movies (outside of from Khan). I seem to recall some edge enhancement too.
I have come to enjoy The Search for Spock much more in recent years. The poster is also my favorite of the six movies (although TMP poster is very, very close).
I don't have any interest in TNG, but might have to pay for it if there is a second boxset to include the last two original movies. Or as Josh stated, there is the possibility I will have to repurchase the first four movies to get the last two.
