Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

If it happens, I don't think it will be until 2020. We do know Lowry restored the SE versions in 4K several years back when everything was still owned by Lucas. I suppose there is a chance they will just use those. However, Disney has very little interest in UHD BD and especially anything...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I would think so unless they continue to just operate as separate companies under Disney. But honestly, with 2020 just two years away and presumably the finale of the Star Wars "Episodes" (1-9) it would seem like the more likely timing.

Completely agree. I just listened to that podcast. Ugh...did he ever drop the ball.

Or the question might be: just what is journalism school teaching these days?

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Interesting comparisons, Dave...especially as close as the Making of Doc is to the 35mm. Can you post more pics of the doc to the 35mm to the Blu? I agree...let's take it to the Raiders thread...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Hey Dave, Thanks for posting those caps. But I don't believe you can take an image from raw analog film and do a fair apples to apples comparison to a film meant to be seen on Blu-ray. In other words, they are two different mediums and what we are seeing with the caps you are posted is not a...

This is just sounding conspiratorial now, sorry. lol

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

In my opinion, Lowry's work back in those earlier days (2004 and earlier) in general was not the greatest...some of which they have come out and admitted.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I think it will be a while before we see a 4K Raiders released, but even as a front projector owner I am not touching UHD BD with a 10 foot pole until there are actually calibration standards in place especially in regards to HDR. According to some on another forum, a couple of Lionsgate UHD...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on Raiders Blu. I've watched it on my pro-calibrated JVC front projector at 124" on a Stewart ST100 screen and it just looks tremendous and very film-like. I cannot say for certain if the color is 100% or not of the original look, but I have no beef...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

, New framing is almost always a sign of a new scan. Framing would be identical if they used the previous scan and just color tweaked it. This is a major color grade change that usually starts from the original negative to be applied. You don't get this just altering something that...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Yes, because the framing is slightly different between them - that is always a sure sign. Also, the color timing is too large of a difference not to be a new scan. I also recall Robert Harris discussing some restoration work. No question they are different scans. There is also more detail on...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

There are two 4K scans of Raiders; one was made around the time it was done for Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade (seen on Japan HD broadcasts); for the Blu and IMAX release, a new scan was done and some further restoration work. The DCP and Blu definitely stem from the same source based upon...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I too noticed that about Raiders with the warehouse shot. I noticed it a little bit with the Nazi vehicle falling off the cliff too. With that said and some of the color controversy (which looks good to me), Raiders just looks gorgeous and very film-like on Blu-ray. It projects wonderfully...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Hi Mike, Let me ask the question: do we know with 100% certainty that the original color timing of Raiders had purely red flags? (I cannot accept previous home versions as "evidence" for reasons Robert Harris has discussed before.) Now, Raiders was re-timed since they did go back to the...

Hi Travis, I've been trying to give subtle hints here and there, but that's about it for now.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Torsten Kaiser (film restoration expert) has said Raiders on Blu is very close to the original color timing. Regarding the Nazi flag color: I saw a 2K DCP viewing of the movie last year and the flag was a bit more red compared to my watching the Blu on my pro-calibrated JVC front projector and...

Oh, that Verta source comes from 4K scans of several tech IB prints.

I wasn't addressing you (if I were I would have stated it directly). I figured your comment was a bit in jest, but when I was writing that post I started really thinking a little more seriously about it in the context of Lucas...but then started thinking about other filmmakers who seem much...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Very well put, Carlo. It echos a lot of my thoughts. My father lived to be 94 and was in great spirits until the end (passed away from a sudden massive stroke). No doubt his attitude and positive sense of life kept him going strong. I think more of his true self became evident as he aged...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I've been a Web site member for almost 16 years now (where has the time gone?). I've never one time stated any rumor and I don't want to start now. I will only say, I have legitimate reason to believe Disney is going to do something very special for the unaltered original trilogy. I will...

Age can be used for some excuses, but not in his manner or undesirable traits. His friend Spielberg is just so much more pleasantly different.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Lucas' comment I found offensive on several levels and rather telling of what has become of him over the years. He came across arrogant and rather pompous in his Charlie Rose interview and this is why he has become much less popular with people and fans in general. I'm not sure how Disney...

They will have to go back to the original negative for a restoration. That is where the "gold" is at.

More reason why I believe Disney is going to do what they want and ultimately restore the unaltered originals. http://news.yahoo.com/george-lucas-says-sold-star-wars-white-slavers-213813307.html?nf=1
