What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

I've mentioned it before on the HTF, but in Rawhide's "Escort to Doom," Rip Torn is visibly cracking up in some of his close-ups as he delivers his lines. Would love to see outtakes from this episode.

When the audience started applauding like that, that's when Sanford & Son jumped the shark for me. It was no longer as funny. Fred's insults to Esther seemed to fall flat. Gone were the hysterical shows like "Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe" and "Fred Sanford, Legal Eagle," which aired back-to-back in...

I'm into season two now of The Rockford Files, only I'm watching it on the complete-series DVD set. A curious thing popped up late in season one (I can't remember the episode title, but I think it was on the last disc)--one episode began with a season two or later opening/answering-machine...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

I'm most of the way through season 1 of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and I was wondering about something that may have been addressed earlier in this thread or another HTF thread recently. Were there separate intros and outros recorded for British vs. U.S. audiences? I notice that in episodes in...

I think the rotating credits started in season 2, maybe 3, presumably so that over the course of the season all 4 stars would receive equal top billing. IIRC, the credits were always in 1-2-3-4 order/Ben-Adam-Hoss-Little Joe, then 2-3-4-1, 3-4-1-2, or 4-1-2-3. Combat! was another series that...

Would you believe I just got in the French release of Madigan today from Elephant Films? I'd read about it and Mrs. Columbo (which I also received today from Elephant via Amazon France) on another current thread here on the HTF. Looks like there's some PAL speed-up. Each of the first two Madigan...

Great posts on Banacek, Randall. I've been a fan of classic murder mystery novels (published mainly between the world wars and extending maybe to 1950-55 or so) all my life, and I particularly love locked-room/impossible-crime tales--which Banacek specialized in. I didn't watch Banacek as a kid...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

I've been plowing through Gunsmoke and am about to finish season 17. I've also been watching Boris Karloff's Thriller from start to finish and have about six episodes left. I bogged down in season 4 of The Twilight Zone and late in season two of the Invaders but will finish those series soon...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

After watching and enjoying very much The Dakotas, I later saw Larry Ward in small parts on The FBI, although his career continued after those roles. By the way--great posts, Randall and Jeff!

I finished off Bronk with the last episode, "The Vigilante," directed by Sutton Roley and co-starring Vic Morrow and the lovely Tiffany Bolling. It's a curious episode--it was a backdoor pilot for Morrow's private-eye character, and it doesn't have the usual commercial-break artwork that all the...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

Bronk #21, "Vengeance," was another Sutton Roley-directed episode. Ramon Bieri played an insanely vengeful NYC cop coming to Bronk's territory to nab an international terrorist. The episode culminates with an extremely tense scene in the back of a jetful of passengers. Great outing by Bieri. One...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

Bronk #19, "Target: Unknown," featured Sutton Roley directing a chase scene involving two helicopters, which must have meant a third copter was in the air filming the other two. Guest stars included Fernando Lamas as a duplicitous type (surprise) and Richard Lynch as an internationally wanted...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

The Bronk beauties continue in episode 18, "Long Time Dying," with Britt Lind and Nancy Kovack. The retooling continues with a tweaking of the intro to the opening theme song. One change in episode 17 was that Bronk went from driving only '50s cars to driving a current model, but in episode 18...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

Continuing with Bronk, the show undergoes a retooling starting with episode 17, "Jackson Blue." Jimmy Sangster and Dan Ullman take over as executive script/story consultants. Michael Mann provides the script in what appears to be his first career writing credit. Dina Ousley as Bronk's daughter...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

The lovely Brenda Scott has been talked about in either this thread or elsewhere on the HTF. She was shown to good advantage in the last Bronk I watched, "Next of Kin." She was one of only two guest stars along with Denny Miller. EDIT: I just watched the next Bronk, "The Deadlier Sex," which...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

I saw the late, great David Hedison in an episode of Bronk last night, where he played a shady lawyer in a nice performance. Bronk had some big names going for it: executive producer Bruce Geller, theme-song writer Lalo Schifrin, and series creator Carroll O'Connor.

I'm on the third disc and am enjoying the series so far. Palance seemed pretty low-key/soft-spoken in the first eight episodes, but he got into a shouting match with John Larch in "Bargain in Blood." I wonder what the Nielsen ratings were for this series. Although I like it, it probably didn't...

I remembered this post after watching Ms. Rhoades in the Bronk episode "Bargain in Blood" tonight. Yowza!

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

I'm 52 and remember watching Columbo, McMillan and Wife, and McCloud, as well as other shows, in their original runs with my mom, dad, older sister, and younger brother. I enjoy revisiting those shows occasionally not only for their plots and guest stars but because it reminds me of a time when...

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

"The Case of the Deadly Verdict" is my favorite Perry Mason episode. Seems like "The Case of the Terrified Typist" (in the book at least, if not on TV) began with a defeat or some sort of setback for Perry.

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

The funniest thing about "Escort to Doom" is Rip Torn's virtual inability to stifle a smile as he's reciting his Native American dialogue. You can easily see a grin on his face in the closeups. I would love to see outtakes from this episode.

What did you watch this week in classic TV on DVD(or Blu)?

Seems like I read somewhere that these episodes were short to begin with, because of some special programming those nights that forced the MI producers to come up with a shorter length. Can someone elaborate? I think these were also "short" when they were issued on VHS.

I've commented elsewhere on the forum on this episode. Torn is clearly about to crack up in his closeups while he's delivering cliched Native American dialogue. I would love to see some outtakes from this episode.
