Holadem, Are you talking about "reference" sound comments about the previous Toy Story DVD or this current DTS edition? This new one sounds BETTER to my ears...much more the "reference" that I never quite felt the original to be (more active 360 sound...much more like TS2)
Ironic...isn't it? Yes...industry folks *finally* figuring out how to master a DVD to its full potential right before the advent of HD media...grin...
He speaks the truth. Folks...are you aware that the image of the comercial R1 DVD of the incredibles is CLEARLY filtered? It's not "bad" but...
You certainly do...you can't imagine the sadness of visiting your site only to find no new updates... ;) Actually, as much as you did for the Fifth Element Super-bit, I'd LOVE to see/read a comparison by you with the new Toy Story. It's possibly the finest DVD image I've ever seen. I can't...
Neil, thanks for those awseome screen-captures. That's very much what I'm seeing in my system...and on a large screen the overall effect easily makes the new disc preferrable...and that DTS!!!! Andrew, glad to see you appreciate the improvement in PQ even on a 27" LCD screen...good...
At aprox 4 inches by 6 inches on a computer screen...the difference is minor...but wide-angle/big-screen viewers may appreciate the difference when watching the film. This is one of those cases where a small objective improvement makes a bigger subjective difference when watching the movie. All...
In addition to the more "near field" mixing style of HT designs...I think often the trebble is toned down versus the EQ of "theater" mixes. BTW, in general I love the "native" sound of theater mixes...the ones I have on laserdisc still sound fine to me ;-) But in *this* case, the new mix...
Folks, what other website can you turn to where you not only get to read cool (grin) reviews, chat back and forth about them sharing your own insights and opinions, and *then* get treated to inside-info like what Felix shared above. This is JUST the sort of posting in these review threads...
DTS ES is literally 6.1 discrete encoding. This is different than DD 5.1 EX...which has to matrix the center rear "ProLogic Style" into the L/R surround channels to maintain backwards compatibility with legacy decoders. DTS ES ROCKS... :D :emoji_thumbsup:
Ugh...I don't have the DTS laser! Just the "regular" single-disc which I didn't even bother getting out. Anyone have the DTS laserdisc and live driving distance from College Park MD? dave :)
Ok folks, I just had the chance to screen some scenes of the new Toy Story disc (and listen to the DTS track) on my new OPPO DVD player. Let's just say it look the paramedics a bit of work to revive me. The image is so detailed, so high-resolution, it's almost impossible to believe...
Let's all refrain from being rude...no one should have to "deal" with anything in these discussions. I'm happy for folks to share their opinions but let's do so respectfully. BTW, just food for thought...when Star Wars was released it was considered a pop-culture entertainment-level film...
Just updated the bonus feature area (and a bit in the PQ area)... and thanks to William who emailed me and alerted me to the many mis-spellings in the review...I had run the whole thing through MS word before the initial posting but apparently I pasted the old draft into the post and not the...
French and Spanish 2.0 DD language tracks... more to come this afternoon when I have time to post! (p.s. most of the SE material is ported from the existing box set...bottom line is tha bonus material is *not* a reason to upgrade to this new copy...but it's not a reason to avoid the...
I'm sure we'll be equally impressed with the Toy Story 2 re-release. Brandon, unless you've got a great audio system that would make the improvements with the new DTS mix worth the while, I'd definitely hold out a while longer in your case...maybe by the time this hits Blu-ray you'll have...
