The art of book is where the first sign of a numeral episode number appeared. Previous to that, the public had no idea SW was an episode from the middle of whatever Lucas wanted it to be.
I disagree that episodes II & III can't be upgraded.
There is an excellent tool in Nuke called TVIScale, it is a special type of scaling and only does 200% scaling.
That node can find details in your pictures, Blade Runner style, that were previously only square pixels and restore them as...
My feeling is starting with the sale to Disney, Lucas is on a road to fix everything he's done wrong in the past re SW.
That means releases of the OT without digital fixes in the horizon.
I think his view of 1-6 as one story will probably keep being re-released as is, but as an "alternative"...
I said it here before, I think releases of the OT as single multi discs sets of each film with all the cuts included, Blade Runner style, would be commercialy wiser and sell like hotcakes.
Don't want to give a link, but you can google preservations edits.
Just to give a few examples
"A 40th anniversary restoration of the ultimate horror classic, presenting the film in its original version as seen at the time of its 1973 release and... never since."
ORIGINAL DIRECTOR'S CUT [HD...
Phantom Editor was/is a professional and Lucas even invited him to the ranch (or so he says) and showed him his own recuts of other people films.
Even heard Tarantino made his own recuts/reconstructions of favorite films and is showing them to friends in private.
I don't think Lucas will ever...
I think the problem here is that someone changed a work millions of people loved against their wishes, and then distributed it in it's place.
What goes around, comes around. It's not surprise people want their OT theatrical cuts back. Does Harmy has a right to do that he does? Legally not...
This is all bollocks. I was always more a Dirty Harry or Leone man than SW, mostly because it was a mass phenomenon. For me 1977 always was the Sex Pistols year not SW. I much prefered breaking into a venue underage to Clockwork Orange than join the sheeps to SW.Yet I could see SW was beyond...
Most fans preservations surpasses the actual Blu-rays. I could cite the theatrical mix of Matrix or Jurassic Park, the mono mix of Terminator, the original mixes for the Mad Max films, original mixes for Alien, all superior to any soundmix available on official home-video.
One can't say just...
I have one question, why wait for something official when the unofficial beats it ahead of time anyway? What with the dozen different mixes and color corrections and sfx corrections (ie reverted back to the original).
The official release, if it ever happens, will likely pale to the current...
The website announcement is clearly just to draw clicks. It seems all the information they gathered from their 'source' comes from this thread. I wouldn't take it at face value. Thought they may be right in their prediction. It's a 50/50 chance LOL
I think it needs to be said that there's no way the original films will be released as a part of a complete saga box set.
Why? Simple deduction, but Lucas doctored the OT so that it's more or less seamless with the recent films. It makes no sense, from a storytelling standpoint, to include the...
Yes, I find it funny that you get many complaints about missing mixes regarding many films, when they are all available in the grey. Fans commitment so that those early mixes lives on is I think very positive.
If the SW staff have half a brain, they will release a 3 disc box set of all SW movies, modeled on the Blade Runner release.
I don't see any point in another full box release remastered. I'm betting each movie, starting with the OT, will come out in a single box set like the Blade Runner, with...
Well, don't know if you're involved with Lucasfilm or not, but not making profits is easy. You just spend the excess money (first class travel, business dinner in four star hotels, escorts, whatever) so that the book balances. Every company does it (except the ones who have thousands of...
I think people are missing the broader point, the original versions do not gel with the two trilogies as a whole, hence the changes and why Lucas doesn't care about them.
He rewrote the saga as it went along, and when he came to do the prequels, he adjusted the previous one, using it as an SFX...
The saga's face as been so lifted now, it will be impossible to issue a box with all the different versions like Blade Runner: they WILL make mistakes and the fandom will be mercyless. There's been too much mixes and cosmetic changes for a simple production team to achieve this, unless they ask...
What concerns? He destroyed his legacy. On the contrary, I think Lucas did never accept that he became known as a "pop corn" filmmaker, where is true interest lies in arthouse films. So all this thinkering would be him trying to piss off the fans, at the same time gouging them out of more money...
This is how the OT looks on the DVD (direct rip)
This is how an old print of Star Wars looks on a recent 35mm unauthorised screening. (snapped off the screen)
:)
I hope we will see bonfires in front of video stores of the current Blu-ray releases, if these ever get out Beatles comments on the christ era style. That would be awesome :)
