Actually since that post I switched back to a Dolby CP650 which, with a special card has built in EX. So I'm not using my SA-10 any longer. Works much better.
I don't usually recommend a movie but if you haven't seen it yet and are looking for a wild, seat of your pants movie, go to Netflix and stream FEAR. Two seasoned stars and the ending is a nail biter.
Re-programmed my automation to bring up the house lights when the actual movie fades and before the credits start so if you don't want to sit through the credits you can get out of your seat and move about with some light. Curtain doesn't close until the end of the credits.
A real treat tonight.... First movie featuring DTS. Back to 1993 and Jurassic Park. 35MM 1:85:1, DTS with a Dolby digital back up. This is the one that started it all.
Tonight a western to start the holiday weekend. All the way back to 1955 in glorious Technicolor and 35mm mono. The Americano with Glenn Ford and Frank Lovejoy (from House of Wax fame) Yeah I know it's on BD but you can't beat Technicolor on film. For a print that's 68 years old a few...
Finally!!! That little chore took a week but it's all done now. My tech (former QSC audio specialist) spend three hours EQ'ing the room (surprisingly very close to the old Dolby 500 settings) replacing several db25 cables for the new configuration and finally running a 25 foot db9 cable...
IT sounds great and not even tuned yet, but I'm having an issue with matching the 5 programs in the automation with the 650. I've got new cables being made to make sure I didn't miss a wire somewhere. In the mean time we're still able to stream movies and project most anything on the big...
Big day today. I'm upgrading my Dolby Digital processor from a CP500 to a CP650. I was not happy with the 500 processing the EX 6.1 surround so the 650 does a much better job with EX. This will be an all day and evening job with the equipment not coming in until after lunch. One wrong wire...
After changing the bulb in my Epson 5010, I've noticed the cool down fan doesn't run as long as it did on the old bulb.
Anyone care to share the possibilities?
There is an add on printed circuit board for the CP650 that allows that unit to pass EX, but for me the CP500 required a Dolby SA10 (second from the bottom in the rack) to make the EX work. A pain to wire up but works great. Instead of a single center rear speaker I installed two JBL 8330's...
I was curious so I went to IMBD to see all the movies that had to do with the Amityville Horror. There are 39 titles with Amityville in the main title. I've seen only the first 3 plus the remake. How many have you seen and which is your favorite?
Found a plaque I've been looking for. Another decoration for the screening room. Screening The Perfect Storm over the weekend the EX (6.1) makes a huge difference. I just wish more titles had the EX tract before film went to digital.
I'd rather eat a brick than file plates especially Kinoton plates. They are thick and take for ever to file. I broke two files when I set up for the current screening room.
A big change from Halloween H20 tonight is a Glen Ford and Frank Lovejoy western......THE AMERICANO 1955, beautiful Technicolor, 35mm, 1:33:1, mono. Directed by William Castle!!
Moving on into the Halloween season, running one tonight to sorta set the mood. 35mm HALLOWEEN H20, SDDS, DTS and Dolby Digital....take your pick! 2:35:1
58 days 'til Halloween.
All week we've been dragging out cobweb classics in 35mm only. Tonight is THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, IB Technicolor, 1:85:1, mono. Haven't watched this one in several years!!
My old silver screen when we first moved to SoCal. Replaced with a larger matte white screen. Boy was I glad to get rid of that nasty silver screen. 3D film looks better on the white screen!
Watched Dial M For Murder last night. That's one movie I never get tired of watching. Great 3D with no jumping off the screen shots. The most subtle use of 3D of any movie we have.
Jurassic Park 3 was worth every dollar I paid for it. The track rivals the best prints in my collection. I know #3 is not every body's favorite but I think it's better than Lost
World. So for me it's Jurassic Park #1. Jurassic Park III #2 and Lost World is #3. All the rest are digital and...
