Thanks for the clarification guys. I was just reading the manual and what information I was getting from it, as well as the website. I also recall from long ago, when I was researching subs, the stance that some SVS owners took on EQing and placing a negative spin on it. So adding all those...
From reading the manual though, that was for subsonic filtering...not EQing. In fact, unless I did not read closely enough, it does not mention anywhere, on the site or manual that the EQ's the amp...just filters below a tune point, which is much different than EQing. Same with the 20-39PC+ I...
Good morning guys, With the recent PB1+ I had in my home, you could also plug ports for variable tuning. How would this differ from plugging a port on the STF-3? It also does not have EQ settings on the amplifier.
steve, I actually agree with you....my Ford vs Chevy post was in reference to Edward's Mustang vs Camaro analogy. I agree, there are measurable differences. Sony on par with Hsu/SVS? Did I write in my Chevy vs Ford post that it didn't matter? I asked what would the fallout be if a Chevy...
Yup....he did. I am not disputing them. But what happens if someone else measures and comes up with different measurements? Then where does that leave us?
did that musician post anything anywhere? Initially, didn't your review say you had more than one other person listening with you? By the way...the new owner of the STF-3 should call Hsu about the vinyl bubble.
OK...you bought the Ultra...I did not know that. Four UFW-10's??? I would like to hear one too! You are closer to him than I am though. Yes, you review what is easily accessable. Also, I have nevered taken issue with your review/comparison. I am glad you did the comparison, just like I will be...
It would really be fun to do this over a beer. I think these types of discussions are healthy. With everyone in the room, beers, and the subs.....I think the discussions would seem more friendly and be more productive. As good as the written word is, most times you can not perceive or feel...
I hope you do as well. But you have to admit, the fact that, with your pending PB2-Ultra review, you will have reviewed three SVS subs and one Hsu sub, and this does not display any balance. Like you said, SVS makes great products...there is no dispute there, why not skip the Ultra and do a...
Everyone has an opinion...and the value of those opinions vary from person to person. Take it for what it is worth and move on. Edward reviews SVS subs and advertises his reviews in his signature. It is the only signature that I see something like that. What would be the opinion on that....is...
Cam, actually I bet you could. I have now had 20-39PC+ and PB1+ in my home to compare to my VTF-3. As subtle as they are, the differences in sound are not difficult to pick out.
What center channel is that? That is interesting. AR does not make speakers anymore right? I just went to their website to look. What brand of subs replaced the AR's?
SVS uses the base plate...so I would think that it is not meant to fire into carpet. I do not know of any other downfiring sub that has a plate. I do not think SVS has a patent on that idea, so I wonder why more companies do not use a base plate. So getting back to Cam's original question...
Edward....thanks for all the hard work! By any chance...with all the testing you have done, have any SPL vs distortion numbers? ie...given a certain frequency, distortion numbers through the SPL range.
I think this is great and will be interesting, especially since we tell everyone to "listen" first. What frequencies will be tested? And will you be using "protection"? :D
One thing that would interest me on the LFM-1 is the downfiring ports vs rear firing on the STF-3, and differences it might make. Craig is mentioning in his HTS thread that the SVS and Hsu seem to be sounding better with time. Have you noticed any of that as well?
Outlaw LFM-1 and STF-3:
All I know about the LFM-1 is the same that has been posted in other places, that Dr. Hsu helped to design it, but the design considerations were Outlaw's. I suspect the amp and driver are very similar if not the same. Edward...thanks for taking the time to do...
Good stuff Ed. Craig wants more questions... Anymore testing above 30hz with SPL vs distortion? Noussaine does that 25 to 62hz test. What are you going to do with the subs now?
