Perhaps, but I've never before had a physically undamaged pressed disc suddenly go belly-up.

I decided to watch the VCI blu-ray of the '51 film - but even after cleaning, the disc couldn't be read on any of my players. My guess is that the disc was not pressed, but a BD-R that went bad? This was the previous 2009 release of the film by VCI.
