Classic films released by Criterion this year:
In a Lonely Place
The Naked Island
The Executioner (October)
Tree of Wooden Clogs (October)
La chienne
McCabe & Mrs. Miller (October)
Woman in the Dunes (August)
Le amiche
Here Comes Mr. Jordan
Dr. Strangelove
A Touch of Zen
Chimes at Midnight...
Very excited about Chimes and maybe the Altman (which I own on DVD, and it looks awful). The Tony Richardson pic will inevitably be available in the UK for a better price.
I am of the unpopular opinion that The New World is Malick's most immersive and complete cinematic opus. This release is bound to become one of the year's most treasured for film buffs. Of course, it probably won't be as exciting to those who already own the WB edition.
In theory, I'd certainly buy The Apu Trilogy. It's one of the most important releases of the year - or even of the last few years, easily.
But it's gonna be too expensive to import it.
The best batch of announcements of the year, in my humble opinion. :drum:
Mulholland Dr., Kwaidan and A Special Day = total must owns. A recent American masterpiece, one European classic and a Japanese work of art. Not too shabby at all.
Sorry, my theatrical showing was at full capacity and there were no kids at all, mostly adults or young adults who loved the first film.
It is way too violent for little kids.
And a surprise: there are actual adults who like dinosaurs, too. They're fascinating extinct animals, not just...
I'm grabbing the Kieslowski, unless it its released in the UK first (which is doubtful at this point).
Already own a Region A release of the Ivory, though Criterion's edition will undoubtedly be superior.
The Bridge for me.
The standalone Five Easy Pieces is a must, too.
I got Valerie on DVD from Second Run last year. Fortunately or unfortunately, I don't know yet.
