He is a competent director of mainly sci fi type or pure Trek shows. Not saying that as a bad thing, but he will always have work on TV in that capacity, for his name recognition alone.

If it is canon, and part of a connected series it is either a prequel, or a sequel depending on the timeline.

At the 49 minute mark are some of the reasons I gave up on the series, but from 1:08-end is spot on with how I feel about the series. I'm really happy for the people that enjoy DSC, but it saddens me that I am not one of them.
